11400F bottlenecks RTX3080?

Hi everyone, 

 

I am planning to build a gaming setup from a previous mining rig and other parts I have laying around here. Willing to spend as little as possible just to use the 3080 in 4K.

 

What I have:

GB RTX3080 10G Gaming OC

GB B460M DS3H V2 (H470 chipset / support 11Gen / only 1x M2 slot)

1x 8GB 2666Mhz

1x 250GB M2 NVME

XPG CoreReactor 850W PSU

Corsair 5000D Airflow case + 6x 120mm fans

 

My inital plan is to get an i5 10400F or 11400F + simple aircooler, 2TB SATA SSD for games (keeping the M2 for OS) and another 8G stick for 16G 2666Mhz in dual channel.

 

Do you think this setup will bottleneck a 3080 in 4K? If so, what do you recommend?

 

Also, does this mobo supports ram OC? B460 model with H470 chipset... weird.

Maybe a little at times, but mostly no. 4K put's a lot more load on the GPU rather than the CPU, so it should be just fine.

You already have that mobo? I did not have a good experience with a Gigabyte Z490 board and Rocket Lake. Wasn't stable, latest bios microcode for Rocket Lake was way out of date. If you don't mind getting B560 chipset I know that supports ram OC and is made for 11th gen. Worst case you can replace mobo if existing gives any problem.

 

Perf wise, 11400 should be fine if your mobo allows you to set a higher power limit. If it enforces the stock TDP it might drop clocks which could impact some performance. 10400F should also be ok with the same power limit considerations, and might be safer option with a 400 chipset.

At 4K? Likely very little to not at all.

Yes I already have this mobo. Good to know I will go w 10400F then just to be safe. I bet B460/H470 will do ram OC too since B560 does, will try 3000Mhz for some boost.

 

"Cool" thing about this setup is that I can focus all the fans to the gpu since cpu has a low tdp and will barely work, unlike my previous 9900k that would overheat like hell.

Your B460 board will do max 2666 with the 1040 and 3200 with the 11400. You can't OC RAM on it, but you are correct that you could with B560.

This is pretty cheap and if you're in the states it's not bad to pair with that B460.

Honestly I'd probably just ditch the mobo (sell) and get this instead:

You'll get PCIE4 and OC, plus a very capable CPU that can do pretty much anything and won't really limit that 3080. 

 

Having such a low end CPU for a 3080 seems weird.

Oh ok, so I can "OC" to the max that the CPU support on these entry boards? It is a H470 chipset though but I doubt this makes any difference.

I am not unfortunally, in my region the 10600K cost is close to a 10700F, which I think would make more sense since I can't OC CPU on this board anyway.
