3070 for 1440p

RailStorm
I have seen the 3070 founder available directly from nvidia uk (sadly no 3080), I'm wondering if its worth it for 1440p high refresh rate. The fact that its nearly 2 years old sucks but more than that only having 8GB vram. What has been everyone else's experience with it at 1440p?
I know Farcry 6 needs more than that for the HD texture pack, are there any other games 8GB struggles.
I would get the 3080 but paying nearly double for it is too much. If I could get the founders version I would.
For comparison the 3070 is £470 while a 3080 is available for £800 (£650 for founders).

I'm coming from a 1060 6GB so an upgrade is needed. Being stuck between expensive but old hardware, new stuff potentially releasing this year, I can't seem to make a choice.
At this point I'll end up getting it just because I can't find anything else at a decent price.

id maybe wait for 40 series to be announced to either get a 40 series card or get a 20-30 series card for really cheap. I used to have a 2070super and at 1440p max in most games was perfectly fine with 8gb of vram so a 3070 would be fine

Cant talk about 1440p but at 3x1080p, I am getting close to 8gb mark on FH5. That being said I got my 3070 just because I know it will be the last ever graphics card my entire setup (monitors included) will get until I build completely new one in 6 to 7 years. I will admit 8GB is cutting dangerously close for 1440p and 4K, I dont have high hopes of new card being cheaper but if they come with more vram (which they most certainly will) I would say I certainly would have waited if my circumstances let me.

Hardware Unboxed have found 8GB to not be enough only in FC6 at 4K ultra with HD Textures (could be a second game too but I don't remember it). It's not desirable to spend $500+ for a GPU with only 8GB but it should be enough. Personally I'd wait for RTX 4000 (or RX 7000 series, AMD might handle ray tracing well with that generation who knows).

I really do want to wait for the 40 series but feel like it will be a scalper nightmare for months after release. Only way I'll get a decent value if nvidia sells directly with the founders version again. That's if I can get past the bots.

I won't lie to you, with every new high end GPU release, availability is poor at the start, but it should normalize in 2 weeks (in a normal market).

Time will tell if we get a normal market this time. I remember telling myself that 2 years ago.
