Replacement Parts Rant

C_Mike

------Rant Alert!!!-----

So i've just been looking on the Dell website, just out of pure curiosity, at replacement parts. I hadn't been looking for very long when I came across the storage section, and I was astounded.

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=400-25762

Firstly the 128GB SSD is over £180,

The most expensive SSD I could find on OverclockersUK is only £120. There are much cheaper options as well.

Then the 256GB SSD is over £350

The most expensive one I could find on OverclockersUK is only £190, again you can get cheaper options

Now, I'm not saying that Dell is the only company guilty of this sort of thing, but how the **** do they get away with this sort of thing.

okay rant over

sigh....

My thoughts exactly. Just like anything else that's overpriced and people do not do their research before hand.

Dell, apple. The overpricingness is laughable honestly. You'd have to be on some strong stuff to buy some of this.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

You get a 3 year warranty on almost any name brand SSD.

All the OEMs charge way more than they should, it's been like that for a while now.

Hardware from OEMs are always overpriced. Same for their official accessories.

HP, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, Apple and even Microsoft are doing this.

For hardware parts, however, the prices are set based on the original MSRP price of the product. If it gets reduced, it won't increase on the manufacture website. Why? Because they are not retailers. They are manufactures. Only their computers and devices that they make are price adjusted... even then, usually not even, but promotions are applied to them. It must be noted however, that you can usually negotiate with the manufacture for lower prices, but really don't expect the same price as retail stores.

As for accessories, you usually get accessories that have a matching look with the device it is for, so they charges you a premium for that.
