New to gaming- Star Wars Battle Front and Battle front 2 are just beautiful games

TexasBulldog74

So my jump to PC gaming is kind of dumb lol... I got hooked on Call of Duty (2019) and bought the Astro C40 tournament controller and love it... then PS5 came out and the controller i paid $250 for didn't work on PS5 games and i just love this controller so I built a PC... not just any PC I went high end (well higher end... 5900x, 32gb cl16, 3 gen 4 ssd's and an EVGA 3080 ftw3 Ultra) and now im branching out to other games finally.

I started looking for games known to be visually stunning and although im not a Star Wars fan i heard these were impressive, even the 1st being from 2017 is absolutely gorgeous!  Id love to see what they could do today but im hearing they aren't doing a part 3.  Too bad.

If anyone else reads this can you recommend any other visually gorgeous games?  I have all the COD's, Star Wars Battlefront 1/2 and Jedi fallen order along with Cyberpunk.  Looking forward for F1 2022 next month.

I love the look of Resident Evil 7, 2, and Village. Absolutely beautiful. Really fun as well. Highly recommend. And the run like champs. You should be able to run 4k 60hz with ease with all the eye candy turned up. (minus ray tracing)

Also, they all are on sale right now on steam.

AND Wolfenstein New World is an older game that is nice looking that happens to be free on the Epic Game store for the next 24 hours.

Red Dead Redemption 2. You can crank the settings with a 3080 easily (even at higher resolutions as it does support DLSS, which is how I play at 4K medium on just a 2060 Super). I guess the best way I can describe it is an actual news story, someone submitted screenshots to their local news station and they ran them on live TV thinking they were photos of IRL landscapes.

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. The lighting engine was swapped to real-time raytracing only, so you can't even play it without an Nvidia RTX card or the newer AMD ones that will do ray-tracing also. Light bounces and dissipates as you'd expect it to, it's really jaw dropping, and Metro Exodus was a gorgeous game to begin with.

Honestly, Skyrim with a reasonable lighting and weather overhaul mod + some texture packs for major towns and trees/grass. The art direction was stellar from the get-go, patching it up with some proper high res textures and modern lighting makes it really wonderful. Not technically impressive against the last two, but damn nice. Just be careful of the rabbit hole modding Bethesda games is, I can't even boot up FO4 or Skyrim without like 100+ mods now, and I actually haven't even finished Skyrim because I broke the main questline last time 😂

Elden Ring. Another game that isn't impressive on a texture resolution/grass blade quality level. But god... the art direction is again superb, and the sheer scale of the world and locations are awe inspiring.

Control. One of the first to support RTX/DLSS, and consistently one of the best implementations of it. Gameplay is okay, the aesthetics are incredible, especially if you're familiar with the SCP Foundation stuff (it's very similar, human org containing threats that don't belong in our reality).

Battlefield 1 and V if they're on sale. Same studio and engine as the Battlefront reboots, so think that same level of quality but WWI and WWII instead of Star Wars. I really enjoyed the mini-campaigns in both, the multiplayer is well regarded by the community but it doesn't work for me sadly.

Star Wars Battlefront (2015) is probably one of the most life-like looking game ever. Not many games look as realistic as that even to this date. Too bad the gameplay is shallow.

Kingdom Come Deliverance imo. It's a beautiful game out of the box with some "ol skool" action rpg elements.

If you enjoy racing games, take a look at Forza Horizon 4 and/or 5.

The Far Cry series is a consistent looker of a game. Some people don't like it and they have complaints about the AI... it's a video game! I enjoy the series a lot. Probably 3 had the best story, 4 and 5 are visually stunning, and I haven't tried 6 yet. Blood Dragon is a great time waster too.

Subnautica (either game) is a pretty time waster too.

Although highly criticized, Just Cause 3 and 4 are huge maps with fun physics.

There's some fun little games on Steam too, like Mark of the Ninja, Outland, Transistor, and Brothers.

The new Tomb Raider trilogy is probably my favorite eye candy game series of all time. Very gorgeous all around.

Far Cry 5 is pretty as well, but I hated the repetitive gameplay compared to Tomb Raider.

Bioshock Infinite is a pretty game with a lot of brightness, but it's starting to show its age. Perhaps some mods out there can give it a bit of a refresh? Bioshock 1 and 2 have Remastered Editions, but games overall are darker/gloomier than Infinite.

Alien: Isolation is pretty and creepy.

Jedi: Fallen Order looks gorgeous to me at 1440p ultra settings.

I found Cyberpunk plenty beautiful, and at least you're starting it now instead of when it first launched. Most major issues have been worked out, and I love it at 1440p with some ray tracing on my RTX 3080.

For non-FPS options, Ori and the Blind Forest has beautiful scenery. So do Child of Light, and Gris.

Elite: Dangerous is a space-flight game that is beautiful for space scenery.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is gorgeous, but it's a dark game that messes with your head, not for all.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'll also upvote both Dooms and the TR trilogy. I recently got back into PC gaming and built a  (to me) pretty killer setup and can finally crank all of the settings to "make it as pretty as possible" and I have not been disappointed. I'll be sure to check out some other games that people have mentioned, as I am also looking for something new to play.

So I would recommend these games, if you are looking for visually gorgeous games:

  • Witcher 3: Witcher 3 is actually one of the best RPG games, with amazing graphics(although it's a 2015 game).
  • Batman games are really cool
  • Metro Exodus has amazing graphics
  • God of War!! I first played god of war on a PS4 slim and the graphics were CRAZY good. Just imagine with your PC ; )
  • Read Dead Redemption 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Another game that few talk about, is Star Citizen. Maybe the game with the most crazy technology.

These games come to mind right now, but there are tons of great games that you should defenitely play on PC (Doom, half life, deus ex, ...)

I've been playing that very recently (just picked up Gamepass, it's on it), it is incredible for sure. Combat's a bit funky but the visuals are jaw dropping, and the characters and soundtrack (as you'd expect from Guardians of the Galaxy) are excellent.

Definitely.

Unfortunately, I picked it up for full retail then 2 weeks later it was announced on game pass...and I have game pass too anyway.

Oh well...lol.

P.S I did the same with Marvels Avengers too.

Yeah:

And spoilering the rest because it came out pretty long, read on if you're interested in the game:

Spoiler

The planet tech makes for some incredible views, and the fact that ships are a physical thing (not a cell you load into or transform your player character into) is really damn satisfying. Especially on the newer ships the attention to detail is insane as well.

Although. All this has to come with the disclaimer that it is still a (depending on the patch) very buggy alpha. I'm currently taking a break because there's an infinite loading inventory bug that keeps hitting me hard, not letting me move any of my gear around (which means I cannot loot, or move weapon magazines from my backpack to my chestpiece so I can use them). I tend to take breaks when either I get bored or there's a really awful bug like this one. The advantage of being in active development is that when I come back, the unplayable bugs are usually fixed, and there's new content (the last major break I took was a couple years long).

If you have $45 spare*, can deal with occasionally gamebreaking bugs and meh performance - it has improved a lot in recent patches - and really love just... space. Being able to fly around it, see a planet, head down to just canyon carve in a light fighter or speeder bike, or for missions, etc, then it's a good game to poke around in at least.

*This is the cost of a starter package. You do not need anything more if you're willing to grind missions in game, as all ships are purchasable in game - or if they just released, in 2-3 patches (about 3-6 months). Hell, I often see traders/miners notice new people and just send them massive sums of aUEC (the money you earn in game, same as credits or whatever in most other space titles) so they can get a new ship. There are occasional persistence wipes if CIG has to clear that for backend reasons, they try to avoid them as much as possible though, just worth noting as something to consider.

CIG also does free flies 3-4 times a year, where anyone can sign up for an account and fly free for a week (they loan you 3 ships that cover the general ground mission/fighter needs), so it can be worth waiting for those if you want to dip your toes in without spending a dime. You'll just need ~80GB of space on a fast SSD and preferably 32GB RAM, but I have friends who play fine with just 16GB so it's not a hard requirement.
