2nd display for discord/YouTube

Gohardgrandpa

Currently using a Dell s2721dgf for my gaming display but need another monitor for discord/YouTube and don’t know which route to go.

Will I have issues if I go with a 1080p screen? I’ve never done multi monitor before so I’m clueless and any input would be a huge help.

Thanks. I didn’t know if I’d have an issue with different resolution or refresh rates.
Now to find a reasonably priced monitor.

Any suggestions ?

First:  If you want people to see a response either @ them, or quote them.

If you're just using it for discord / youtube?  anything that doesn't completely suck is fine.  Neither of those uses need over 60hz

The best option would be to get the same monitor, looks the cleanest.

The second best option is a monitor that uses the same screen size, resolution and panel type.

In both of those you get the same size and the same pixel size so the transitions from one screen to the other look the best.

Different panel types, on the same screen size, have slightly different pixels so  there might be a small difference when combining, for example, IPS and VA.

That's followed by a smaller screen as the second, for example a 24" or 22".

A 24" 1080p has larger pixels than a 27" 1440p so such a monitor would have different scaling.

A 21-22" 1080p would have similar pixel size as 27" 1440p.

i always prefer to have matching displays, otherwise it may look a bit odd with DPI or color differences between the panels.

but as for having issues with multiple displays, when you go beyond 3 panels oddities get more common, but it's stuff like windows getting confused with the order of the panels when a driver update happens, and it's a bit of a fuss to et the displays rearranged. i've totally rocked a setup with 4 mismatched panels, and it's been mostly fine, but matched panels is so much nicer.

I've got a 2560x1600@60Hz panel and a 3440x1440@100Hz panel connected to my GPU, then another 1920x1080@60Hz connected to a DisplayLink USB adapter and they're all seemless to use. Just normal extended desktop in Windows.

@manikyath

id prefer to do matching displays but I’d rather not spend $300+ on the same

monitor to use for discord.

Yeah just get any cheaper display. Aside my main monitor I use two side basic 1080p 60Hz IPS ones.
