What Would Bottleneck An HD 7950?

RubyRoks

So i'm goofing off on PC Parts Picker and i saw that a 7950 was 219.99-ish. a good rule of thumb is to buy a CPU that's about equal price to the GPU. But i was wondering how bad of a CPU this card would be able to perform decently.
thanks for the input if you choose to reply :)

that's a bad rule of thumb, typically you want to spend more with the GPU than CPU.

An i7 4770K could bottleneck it. So you should get an FX 6300

Throw water on it, i reckon that would bottleneck the 7950.

I'm talking about how LOW PERFROMING of a CPU i could get

I know the 4770k could easily get more out of a better card, but i want to know if a Sandy-i3 or worse would be too low end

Something below a Athlon x4 / Phenom ii x4 would bottleneck it pretty significantly

An Intel 4004

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

You could but CPU bound games would bottlenecked, a FX-6300 is the same price and can be overclocked plus it has more cores.

But it's intel, no bottlenecks here son.

Does that come in an Extreme edition SKU?

:P

I would get something like a FX 6300 for that. If you want something better I would go with the FX 8320.

A sandy i3 is just fine for any game besides ARMA.

That CPU was not used in PCs at all, you're lowest choice would probably be an 8088

"commercially available"

I don't care if it wasn't in a PC. It would still bottleneck a 7950.

A better rule of thumb is to buy a 4670k if your GPU is 250+, or a 6300 or i3 if it's less than 250.

In All Seriousness,

Go watch Austin Evans video with the i3 4130 and the i5 4670k (at stock speeds im guessing)

He tested a 7950 in that video with both CPU's and the i3 barely bottlenecks it. like barely

Case: NZXT H440, Motherboard: Z97 ROG Ranger, CPU: i5 4690K @ 4.2Ghz, Ram: 8GB G.Skill Sniper @ 1600MHZ CL9, GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1, Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, WD Blue 1TB, PSU: Cooler Master V650, Cooling: Swiftech H320, Monitors: 3 x Benq VZ2350

I'm running a i3 2120 with a 7950 Boost @ 1Ghz and 5.5Ghz Mem Clock and the GPU is on 100% Utilization in BF4 so the little i3 is not throttling the 7950 .

the 4130 would outperform the 2120 i'm looking at EASILY, so it'd be harder to judge from that comparison.
