1080p vs 1440p for RTX 2060 Super in AAA games?

dens22

Hello. I would like to know, what kind of resolution should i look at for my new monitor: 1440p or 1080p? I will be playing mostly AAA titles as well as some indie games. Also, I plan to upgrade the gpu in the future. Thank you for your input. Here are my specs:

CPU: R7 3700X

MOBO: MSI MAG B550M MORTAR

RAM: 16GB

GPU: RTX 2060 Super

SSD: 500gb NVME, 1TB SATA, 120GB SATA

HDD: 2TB, 1TB

A 2060 Super should be able to play at 1440p, though you have to sacrifice a few visual settings. Most of the time it should hit 60 fps at medium to high settings (in AAA games to be clear), so if that sound fine then I'd go for it, especially since you're planning to upgrade, it'd suck to have to buy a new monitor again.

Well, you don't mention how important is framerate for you. Most indie games will go fine at 1440p even at high framerates, then resort to DLSS/FSR for more demanding titles. I'd go for a 1440p 75/144hz monitor with freesync support, especially if you plan to upgrade the GPU at some point.

1440p dlss is a bit awk for some games, i'd go with 1080p 144hz here with the 24G2

I have an RX5700 and I do 1440p. I dont play many AAA titles however. Halo multiplayer stutters a little with my card, the 2060 super you have is a better card in terms of performance so Id say do the 1440p. If you plan on upgrading your GPU in the future I dont think you will have any issues. Going from 1080p to 1440p in my opinion is a game changer.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

For sure the 1440p.  Even if you dont max it out now your next GPU upgrade will get you to that limit.

Im at 1440p after a GPU upgrade and now im looking at 4k with high refresh but damn their expensive.  1440p on high settings on a nice monitor is pretty impressive though.

I was about to suggest 1080p, but then i remebered that my base 2060 was perfectly capable of 1440p even on modern games without barely losing fps, so you should go for it.

Worst case scenario, use DLSS in the games that allow it.

The GPU should be good for at least 1440p 60fps high in most games.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
