What do you do for a living?

IAmNik

Curious to see what you guys and gals do for a living! What helps fund your systems and hobbies?

I build and customize off road vehicles (ATVs and UTVs). Liftkits, light bars, winches, stereos, doors. Just about anything you can put on em lol

Sounds interesting.

My job is not as exciting.

I'm a Sales Consultant Specialist for a hospitality company and my purpose is to consult clients and book their dream vacation.

Beside the fancy description, what I do is taking calls, replying to e-mails and chats, a basic office job.

NZXT S340 | Ryzen 7 5900X | B550 AORUS PRO V2 | TridentZ RGB 2x8GB 3200 | RTX 4070
Nintendo Switch (2x), Nintendo *New* 3DS, PSP-1000, PSP-2000 (Crisis Core Limited Edition)

MacBook Pro 14 (2021), 16GB RAM, 512GB ROM

I'm a "Head of IT" or in some areas called CTO/CIO... With lots of hand on.

Last October I did build a whole companies IT Infrastrukture from scratch, in the following weeks now I'll do a two companies IT merger, and moving, due to my company having bought another one... both not enterprise level big.

Working in IT for over 20 years now... having planned and build several infrastruktures, was in projects that allowed me to travel  alot, first all branch offices here in germany, later London, Paris, Toronto trips every now and then.

One time I even was on the same plane as depeche mode and told Gahans Bodyguard to move aside, after he first blocked my way to the checkin =) had some fun with them while we were on the same travels... parted at Charles de Gaulles airport after a smoke and some smalltalk...

I made one of my hobbies to my job... =) the other thing I would have done would be something creative... gfx/desgin, which I did as teenie for some scene computer demo groups... later to earn a little extra by creating posters and menu cards for restaurants... Currently I started writing again...

well I even did some plate taxiing (waiter) and chef (cook) jobs after school...

Main System:

It depends on the company... I was on the brink of throwing the towel and switch companies not long ago... but after some a little more open heart to heart with the owner we are on greener fields now.

Heart to heart? I told my boss/owner to suck my d**k, twice. Got a raise a week later 🤣 side effects may vary on the boss so, I don't suggest trying that..

However, we too, are on greener terms now. He just doesnt fuck with me anymore lol respectfully

Got tired of eating ice cream the "normal" way. Break barriers, try something new. The Government has tricked us into thinking the best way to eat ice cream is holding the cone, you sheeple continue to hold it on the cone, I'll hold it on the ice cream. /s

It is also part of my hobby, most of my hobby revolves around PC, though I also enjoy some other activities

As for how I pay my bills? I'm a heavy equipment mechanic turned warehouse guy. Went from trade school straight underground, and been at this mine ever since. Coming up on 9 years here now this summer. I've got a little warehouse down here that I run. Keep parts, PPE and consumables for mechanics etc.

Been several things over the years. Rental trailer fleet mechanic, houseman at several hotels and convention centers, and currently a aerial rigger for a local AV production company. Likely will be moving away from that to become a truck driver for better money and more stability in the post COVID age.

Originally I wanted to get into game design and dabbled in 3d animation but reality struck after high school so I tried to get into Database management but even before I got my associates the job market crashed and suddenly was flooded with unemployed and desperate veterans willing to work for fresh out of collage pay thus leading to my list of jobs there after.

There is a quote from some Canadian show that pretty much sums up my jobs up to this point in my life:

"The Codex Electronica does not support this overclock."

Nah, gold. Coal wouldn't be that tall of an opening except in the vein. Plus coal still looks "old timey".
