My post has been chosen to be made an NFT, do I get anything for it? Can I opt out?

No. All posts made to the forum are property of Linus Media Group.

 

Does owning an NFT of a post grant me ownership of that post, the ability to edit that post?

No. By purchasing an NFT you only own the NFT of that post, not the post itself.

 

Why make forum posts available as NFTs?

Is a forum account required to own an Non-Fungible Tech Tip NFT?

Still counts as a win for the creator.  I would actually be amused if they did this some other time of the year too.  Whatever they sell should have no actual functional value though, so it probably shouldn’t have a usefully current LTT logo on it.  They might be able to use an image specifically of that to do fake merch.

That’s not a body copy face, that’s a display face.  LTT has to have some sort of graphic designer on staff that would simply not allow that as it’s conceptually offensive on top of it working really poorly.  I doubt it.

It struck me that it was probably April fools, but I’m not sure it’s such a terrible idea.  Those things strike me as ridiculous, and doing something absurd like a non fungible tech tip does send NFTs up in a an appropriate way.  There is likely the “already been done” bit I’m sure.  NFTs were big in arts, and it wouldn’t surprise me if something like it was done multiple times in the first few weeks they existed.  I don’t mind seeing LTT make money while making a snarky editorial comment about an aspect of tech though.  It’s pretty on brand really.  I don’t know a lot about what kind of implied license goes along with them so care would need to be taken.
