4*4 16 GB 1600 MHz Ram or 4*8 32 GB 1333 MHz Ram?

I have 4*4 16 GB 1600 MHz rams installed in my rig, I also have 4*8 32 GB 1333 MHz Ram sitting in my drawer (comes with heat sink)

Should I use the 4*8 32 GB 1333 MHz Ram instead of 4*4 16 GB 1600 MHz?

If I choose to swap the rams; am I going to loose any performance because of 1333 MHz speed?

I know more then 8 gigs is ram doesn't help in gaming, having 1600 MHz speed

If i use the 4*8 32 GB 1333 MHz Ram; I might over clock it

So should I use the 4*8 32 GB 1333 MHz Rams or sell it?

My current rig

Depends...Are you going to be doing video editing? If so it's usually better to get more ram rather than faster ram. If mainly just gaming 16gb is more than enough.

If you are sure you can overclock it then to the same spec then yes. CAS latency will probably be 11 or more, that however is not really a problem.

Otherwise no, unless you are using programs the really need that RAM then i don't see the point.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

I don't think that you will notice any difference between 1333 and 1600. but your not going to get any performance out of running 32Gbs over 16Gbs other then maybe in video editing when working on a huge project with tons and tons of fancy effects

considering 4gb is plenty for gaming and beyond 8gb there's next to no difference even in thinks like rendering (unless were talking dual xeon setups and some SUPER massive pieces of work which i doubt we're talking about), neither.

As someone who actually renders stuff, I'm calling bullshit. Sorry dude, but my programs crash with anything less than 4GB memory free.

Even iMovie takes twice the time with 4GB of RAM and Final Cut with Compressor is even worse.

If you are doing colour correction, you need even more ram, and in some cases, a massive page file.

Even with games, 4GB isn't enough, framerate drops and the game lags out when it is too constricted.

Such as Simcity, which you wouldn't consider to be a massively demanding game, it crashes at larger city sizes if you haven't got enough ram.

There is no way 4GB is enough unless you are in an office, and Microsoft Word is the only program that you use.

....op never specified use case

i agree that there is a benefit to going to 8gb of ram in most applications (im not going back down to 4...)

but my friend uses 4gb of ram and for the last month i have been too and it wasnt too bad, sure you cant have a ton of chrome/youtube tabs open at the same time but what are you doing,b browsing or gaming.

most games (and i have just come off simcity btw) only use maybe a gig or 2 of ram in simcitys case about 1.4ish, you must have a seriously messed up pc if it keeps crashing on you because frames are written to vram not system memory.

with windows maybe using a gig and maybe 256 set aside for the onboard memory (bio's eh..) that still leaves you with a gig and a bit left over which usually just gets used for caching.

id advise op to get 2x4gb of 1600-1866 (depending on price/mhz) because by the time we need more ram ddr4 will be mainstream even linus has said buy it when you need it, buying more in the hope to grow into it is stupid.

if op was doing REALLY heavy rendering work sure a 4x4gb kit would be great...and a new 2011 cpu and board to make the most out of it. but he isnt doing that.

how about this?

New Ram usage2

Stick with the 16gb

I'd go for 16 gigs, if you get 32, it would seem superfluous and a bit like you're dick measuring rather than wanting function.

Even without video editting etc, there's times where I'm in 20+ gb plus just hosting servers for friends (mc + ts3) while playing battlefield 4 w/ a bunch of chrome tabs open.

I don't really use my PC for what I set-out to use it for, but there's times I'm glad I did get 32gb of ram, even if i only use it every once in awhile.

I like being able to do "anything" with my PC and not having to worry about whether I can run something / do something, even if I never do it :P

But yeah I agree, unless there's extenuating circumstances 16gb is more than enough

32 GB (fo lulz), I doubt you will use them all but that CPU's memory controller supports up to 1333 MHz

and you won't notice too much difference between 1333 MHz and 1600 MHz

So you are saying my i7 -2600 non k CPU is not fully utilizing the 1600 MHz Ram's?
