Should I use a dropped HDD?

Hey there,

Basically I took the HDD from my old laptop and put it into my new one for added storage but now that my mums laptop broke I figured I'd let her have my old one. However as stated before, I kinda took the the HDD from it, and because the HDD I took was 1 TB I don't really wanna give it to my mum seeing as she does very little downloads and I feel like I could get more out of the drive than she would. Anyway I remembered I had this old 180 GB HDD which would be perfect for her but I dropped it a while ago cleaning my cupboard. When I installed it into the laptop it was recognised and the full capacity was there. My question is should I let my mum use this drive as her main one or should I just buy a 240 GB SSD? I would want to buy her an SSD seeing as they are generally pretty cheap but as I am a casual worker and don't make a lot of money, I would like to just save wherever I can.

Thanks in advance.

I would never, ever use a HDD as a main drive, and ESPECIALLY not if it has been dropped.

But if you have no other drive, then what can you do?

But yes, I would order a generic, cheap SSD instead 🙂

Edit:
Of course, the HDD could be working fine. Maybe just install Windows on it and see how it goes.

you should just really buy her a 240GB SSD, even the cheapo ones will be miles better than even a new hard drive.

that said, most laptop drives have some resilience to bumps, so it might be fine.. or it might just not be fine. that's the issue.
