Is there any reason to not use bitlocker?

Title says it all. My PC is mostly for gaming and media consumption.

 

What are the advantages / drawbacks?

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Well it's drive encryption. But idk what it would do for me that's why i posted this topic.

On a laptop that you took places, maybe, but even then it would be a tough sell for me when open source mutli platform alternatives exsist.

 

On a desktop, not a chance for me. I want to be able to easily access my data from other operating systems without work arounds. I want to access my data easily if Windows crashes or I need to reinstall it. If I update the BIOS, nothing funny happens, etc. 

 

If you have files you want to protect perhaps look into something like Veracrypt that works from multiple platforms.

Important documents are mostly cloud saved, so i don't really have any critical documents on my PC. I don't need remote access.

I personally have it on my laptop, but not on my desktop (which doesn't support TPM, but still wouldn't use Bitlocker if it did).
To add to what the others have said, a disadvantage is a slight performance hit. No matter what optimizations and Intel instruction set extension trickeries, there's always going to be a small performance hit.

Another one which is pretty big for me, is the dependence on the aforementioned TPM. On my laptop, whenever I update the BIOS firmware, the TPM is wiped, and the Bitlocker key is lost. This means, on the next boot, I better have my Bitlocker recovery key handy if I want to get into Windows. Big yikes.

The only bad sides of encryption are: 
-Data recovery
-Slightly performance hit (usually in write speeds), but it depends.

Don't even get my started on the nightmares I have had with bitlocker drives. 

Honestly, unless you have super important data that if someone got ahold of it would be an issue, then you encrypt. Personally, I dont run encryption. The only machine I had encryption on was my laptop and that is because I had client info on it.

unless you need the security there is no reason to encrypt your disks.. since it will make your disk slower.
