Knock-off electronics have a well-deserved reputation for being a complete waste of money, but some fans claim that these fake AirPods are as good as the real ones but at a fraction of the price. Could these no-name Chinese replicas possibly take on Apple? We test with some friends from around the office to find out.

personally I wouldn't buy them though.  soundpeats have really good audio quality, like the air 3 model.  but I'm on my 3rd pair, they just dont last.  the company has good warranty service.  and you can get them on amazon.  if you buy the fakes, shipping from china takes weeks.  no returns.  questionable warranty.

EDIT: Original title of the video before they changed it to something almost equally as deceptive was “These Fake AirPods are better than Apple’s”

 

 

Title of the video is the worst kind of clickbait, straight up lying. 

 

Title says "these are better than the real thing, rest of the video says "here's a grocery list of countless problems and you shouldn't buy them".

Reason why you buy AirPods is because they consistently and reliably work with everything you throw at them. They'll pair perfectly, they'll be connected perfectly, they'll sound consistent, won't have weird humming or buzzing when idle and on average good enough for most users and they won't have stupid quality issues. Are they worth as much as they charge you for them? That's debatable. But large part of premium you pay for it is the Apple brand and the quality assurance that comes with it. And that costs money. Not to mention they've gone through all the R&D to design the shape and make sure the fit is good. All that knockoffs did was copy the shape and roughly make them sound alright.

 

I bought AirPods 2 exclusively to be used on Windows PC because I couldn't find any wired anymore without stupid silicone tips and wires were an issue because they all died because of that. Some got yanked to death, others got unintentionally caught inside turbo brush of a vacuum cleaner and minced into bits. Was it worth 130€ ? Well, they work flawlessly and sound great. I actually looked at tons of clones on eBay and AliExpress and after reading 10th version with more zeroes added to the name/version number and literally having made up specs that were copied from some others, I just gave up, paid 130€ for real ones and never regretted the decision. I still have them and they still work great. What good is spending 40 or 50€ for fakes that may or may not work and you end up with e-waste or terrible experience. I just wasn't willing to gamble.

 

I've later bought SoundPeats TrueAir 2 after getting recommendation from someone here on LTT forum actually, but I made a gamble because they were super cheap, had a recommendation and also own webpage and not AliExpress copy&paste garbage description. They were 24€ on Amazon.de and I still have them and use regularly. The case feels a bit cheaper and bass isn't as well defined and touch controls are way too sensitive, but other than that, they work reliably and have pretty good sound. For 24€ they are zero regret option. I'll be checking SoundPeats for as long as they offer earbuds without silicone tips. I hate those. They seem to be cheap, of consistent quality and are original design and not a clone. I actually prefer that. If I want AirPods, I'll get the real thing. If they are not, I actually prefer if they have original looks.

I can understand clickbait thumbnails, even though I don't agree with it, but clickbait titles like this are simply spreading misinformation. But hey life's only about money so it's fine

I have the AirPods Pro and they're not the best-sounding earbuds I've heard, but they sound good enough and, more importantly, are pleasant to use. They're easy to set up and use across multiple devices (at least in Apple's world), comfortable yet secure, very reliable, and boast strong active noise cancellation. There are plenty of great alternatives out there, to be clear, but I wouldn't hesitate to suggest AirPods Pro (or third-gen AirPods, in some cases) to iPhone/iPad/Mac users.

Well I am not one of them...

I like falling asleep listening to something, so got myself sleepphones. Basically a headband with slim built-in speakers. During the day I can blast music, don't care what other people think as long as it's about me as the song goes...

Yeah, the case for AirPods is much weaker if you don't have at least one Apple product. I'd probably lean toward Sony's buds if I were daily driving an Android phone. Sleepphones... well, that's something many people could use regardless of their mobile devices!

I know no one is actually gonna care about what I have to say here, but I figured it'd be good to speak up, lest I just be another invisible disgruntled long-time LTT viewer:

 

But this is the video that finally made me unsubscribe from LTT's channel. I know there have been numerous cases of clickbaiting done by LTT in the past, but this is the one that broke the camel's back for me. The video title literally was (and still is for this thread) "These Fake AirPods are better than Apple’s", yet if you actually sit down and watch the near 14 minute video, you'll find that, no, they are not better than Apple's, even by LTT staff's own accounts. Even the new title, "Avoid Real Airpods" is contradictory to Riley's final conclusion. So what the hell am I, an audience viewer who believed LTT was acting in good faith, supposed to take away from this? I'm not sure, but it sure as hell seems dishonest.

 

The worst part about this for me is that I vaguely remember Linus stating in the past (cannot remember the exact video) that LTT does not/will not clickbait. Now I know he is just a boldface liar. If you guys want to stand by a mission of integrity, I think you have some deep soul-searching to do as a company, because at this point, you're willingly spreading misinformation for the sake of clicks.

Apple took time and spent money to build a brand theme and these are just copying the aesthetic to sell them by piggy backing off that look and reputation. This harms Apple who made the original product that was copied.

YEAH, algorithm be damned this clickbait title stuff is getting ridiculous. Plenty of other techtube channels don't clickbait this hard and get views. I know it's same old 'we can't beat the system so we have to play along' argument but it's wearing thin. You're not some small time channel, you have some modicum of power as a creator to buck the trend and screw the algorithm and you actively choose not to.

So you might miss a few clicks, what's your integrity worth?

I agree and Linus wants the channel to move towards a more scientific standpoint with highend test equipment but none of that will matter if no one can trust them. LTT is actively harming the community they set out to support for nothing more than profit. It's sad to say but LTT has gone down the corporate rabbit hole

Audio quality isn’t what you need to focus on for airpods. Sure they’re not terrible, they sound alright. The selling point of wireless earphones in general is convenience which with the battery life and connection issue these aren’t. It doesn’t matter if they sound like HE1’s. If they only last a minute and disconnect every 10 seconds they’re shit.

The Airpod Pro 5.2 TB's have better sound quality than the real product.

They may be lacking a little in the ANC but for $50 (1/5) of the price its crazy how good they are!
