Kingston SA400S series SSD Problems

Lil_JayZLB

Hey guys, a year ago i bought a Kingston SA400S SSD that's 480GB but recently i have been having a lot of issues with it. I was using it in class in my HP ProBook 6475b Notebook and suddenly the laptop crashed and then when it restarted all my files and applications where gone i was left with an empty drive. And the drive keeps getting slower the read and write speed are between 300 and 380 MB/S. i tried updating the SSD firmware using the Kingston SSD manager tool that Kingston provided but it still was slow and laggy. Any ideas on what to do i just started my business and cant afford a new one and the SSD I'm using in the mean while a Biostar 120 GB is also very slow although in my PC it read on the SSD speed test app 600MB/s read and 530MB/s write. please help

My only suggestion would be to dump it in the trash and buy a Samsung.

Well Kingston A400 is just bad budget SSD,  there were some dead ones, and some problems with freezing, or 100% usage with it.
The old version was on Phison S11 (DRAMless, 1-core) and 2D 15nm Toshiba TLC NAND that did fail in some of the A400.  Buying that, is like asking for trouble.
Like the problem with Phison S11 are usually because of the failing NAND, and when you pair that controls with crappy NAND like that  2D 15 nm Toshiba TLC NAND, without strong ECC/BCH/LDPC, it's just a matter of time.

The problem of the A400 is due to its controller, the Phison S11 can brick the firmware and change it to SATAFIRM S11 and then the SSD is unusable. Also, if the SSD doesn’t have a “strong” ECC (I guess you mean an ECC with low codeword like BCH - 72b/1KB) the problem is the controller, not the flash, even though the S11 is a LDPC 2KB.

ill have to find my sata to usb cable and ill send a screenshot of the result but idk if it might be a CPU buttleneck problem knowing that i have a 10 year old processor

bus you said that there is no problem with the ECC but in my case the SSD was slow/unresponsive and also i had multiple data loss issues with is

well in this case i m sure that my SSD is faulty

and once knew the read and write speeds were in the neighborhood of 600 to 700 MB/s

and this is while i was doing the speed testimage.png.3ad7f8068ffbed4a8d5258328b602996.png image.png.fe95d3e5a49f9b55de2a73e4696b600d.png

this the same SSD i own just for you guys to know which one exactly but the fact that's most surprising for me is that my sister and i have the same SSD's and hers isn't failing what so ever and she is a heavy user and her PC doesn't shut down

There are more than one hardware version of it, so you can't never know. But well the new version on 3D NAND is quite new, so if it have qouple years, then it's the old version

The speeds can't really be more than 560 MB/s (max SATA III speed) (it can be a problem with MB and MiB conversion).

Please post the crystaldiskinfo with all SMART attributes data

welcome to chip gatcha, anything from SSD, RAM, CPUs and GPU!
i have that SSD A400 240GB still works fine, even with super heavy usage like constant install/uninstall or copy pasta & delete large games, torrenting, i didn't even bother moving browser cache all just there.
bought mine at 2018.

my WD green 240GB also still works fine since 2017.

With the firmware version is possible to know the controller and the flash.
