How to recover very old data in HDD after formatting multiple times?

Tom80765412

I have a question about local and external HDDs.

2018: 500gb Hard drive which contains almost 450 to 500 gb data.

2019: Hard drive formatted completely and new data is moved into it.

2020: Hard drive formatted again completely and new data is moved into it again.

2021: Formatted again

Is it possible to recover all or some data which was present in 2018?

If yes then what would be the steps?

Formatted 3x and data overwritten 2x? Chance of recovery is extremely small.

so not worth trying to recover it?

also i have another scenario

if some data was deleted and it was replaced with new data from an external hdd.

but it was never formatted, only deleted.

any good chance there?

Overwriting the files with new data is going to cause you to lose those files. When you delete a file, it might be more accurate to say that it is deleted from your file directory. The file is still there on the disk, but it has been marked as free space and has nothing pointing to it anymore. When this "free space" is overwritten by anything else, it makes it next to impossible to recover.

I don't think it would hurt to try a free program like Recuva to see what it finds, but don't get your hopes up.

Worth is only something that you can determine. For highest chances, use a data recovery service, but know that the cost is high.
