Acer Travelmate 5760G, looking to set up Proton games in Manjaro

i traded Pure Arch for Manjaro, after some stupid issues with Internet and Pacman.

i want to be able to play GTA IV, V and games like Cuphead, VR Chat etc.

i'm having some trouble with the games not launching.

Cuphead tells me that DirectX 11 should be installed and i can't get it to work and the Rockstar Launcher gets stuck loadingScreenshot_20220129_200642.thumb.png.304da1571ddca08bed6af8706f692eef.png

is my GT 540M too old for Linux gaming?

it uses the Bumblebee 390xx Driver, do i need to use the Proprietary driver instead?  Screenshot_20220129_201010.thumb.png.2d602d0f5f4da6bd71ed7ffd48e250ef.png

any and all help is appreciated.

It would appear that your GPU doesn't support Vulkan, which is a requirement for DXVK and VKD3D, the DirectX to Vulkan Translation Layers that Proton heavily relies on.

https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

apparently in that Archive there is a Driver labled as compatible with the Card. i'm gonna try this

Can you share the output of

glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

You can try set the game launch parameter  to use OpenGL instead of Vulkan

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

keep in mind that gamnes like vrchat heavily relies on directx and have been doing major engine upgrades like upgrading from Unity 2019.11, so you need the translation layer, I recommend working around it so that you can run in OpenGL instead of Vulkan translating from directx

the bottom one worked and now both Cuphead and GTA IV (as far as tested) works great

how come i see this under the 390.147 driver under the Vulkan 1.2 downloads page?

Because your Card is supported by the 390.147 Driver, however just because Vulkan is part of that Driver doesn't mean that your Card is supported by it's Vulkan implementation.

ah so Vulkan was just locked entirely out of the driver despite its total hardware ability to handle it?

No. There is just no Vulkan Support for that card, NVIDIA just never implemented it.

That sounds like a X compatibility issue, what driver are you using and from where was it obtained?
