Hi!
I'm using VLC on both my Windows PC and Manjaro Linux laptop, unfortunately the windows version is pretty slow in my edge case. When I pause and hit play on a fragment a couple of seconds before the sound starts instantly but video takes a hot second. When learning dance routines a second is basically forever. I posted in this section because same video on the same software (Linux beign on waaay weaker hardware) performs different on these 2 OS'es.

My theory is that Windows handles wideo buffering a bit different and clears out memory faster, having to read from disc more often. Anyone has any idea how to change this behaviour? (No, switching to Manjaro on PC too is not an option 😂).
Thanks and have a nice day!

Are you perhaps running an SSD on your laptop but not on your PC? Or at least are you accessing the video on your PC from an HDD?

I could also argue that there is less overhead on Manjaro and as such VLC is faster.

What kind of storage solution is the laptop and the windows desktop? HDD? SSD?

Also, maybe consider K-lite Standard edition on Windows.

I have (an) SSD on my laptop but on the PC runs:
RTX 2070, R5 3600, NVMe SSD (Don't remember the speed but certein it's faster than the laptop one). I do not own any hard discs.

According to the installer VLC is not supported and MPC has been depricated.

Do you have the latest version of VLC? Also how well does the video play in another program?

I see... It may be that you need the codec to play it properly in VLC on Windows whilst Linux has the codec already...

Edit: most codecs can be installed to VLC for free.

personally i vastly prefer wmp, i don't know 100% if this is still true, but you should get the necessary codecs for free from ms store, if you have hardware that already has the license for it (for example a modern Nvidia gpu)

I know you're happy with mpv, just saying,  if you ever want to use wmp there's that option.

And its glorious:

(yes this is win10 wmp 🙂 )
