Substitute for soldering things?

ItzzBlueCircle

I got a refurbished keyboard with the space key unsoldered and was wondering if there is a way to fix it without a soldering iron and wire. BTW its a Logitech G413

Probably not. I dont see anything about that keyboard being solderless switches either.
It's no big deal. Grab literally any piece of tech from the trash and practice.
Keyswitches are one of the easiest things I've ever soldered, it's not like really small and close together like ports.
Here's a cheapo that I've bought years ago and if it's the same itll get the job done nicely.

See that spring loaded thing? Heat up, hit the button and that thing will yoink the old solder. Add new solder. It will still work even if you do a sloppy job

oh uh, you say its unsoldered, it'd test it if you can before resoldering. Just to make sure you dont need a new switch. If you got a multimeter you can just test for continuity.

I don't understand. I don't want to spend money on any a soldering iron and use it once. Is there a way to do it without a soldering iron?

One trick i used to use when in highschool and everyone had those early gen mp3 players with headphone jacks that would become desoldered was to shove a folded up piece of cardstock in there to force the connection without solder. Its possible theres a way to hold it just right to where it makes the connection, but probably not a good way to do that, and that works best with the surface mount stuff not through holes. Plus you'll be banging it all day, itll get dislodged easy.
Some hobby stores near me have absolute junk ass soldering irons for 5$, if you have access to something like that it's probably an option. Or borrow someones. TBH, that one I linked for 16USD is just a good thing to have. Every now and then you'll need to fix a port on something and itll save the day.

Take it apart and double check its not hot swap switches if you haven't. Some keyboards do have them, though they usually list that as a feature which i didnt see in yours.

Soldering irons are like 2-3$ for the lower power ones, i dont see a point in just not buying one cause 2-3$ for something that you may only use once but can become useful in the future isnt a bad deal, i have a 40w soldering iron that i havent used yet and it was like 1$ when i bought it, i dont know how to use it yet but since ill be f ing around with bga rework then itll prob come in handy for desoldering

And if you just got it from seller thats probably the right move.

if you have a butane torch lighter, heat a solder wire and let it drip on top of the contact, just a hack if you dont want to buy an iron.

but it will be messy.

There are solder substitutes (i.e. conductive glues) which are utilized in situations where soldering is not possible or the components absolutely cannot be heated. But these glues are more expensive than most soldering irons. Just a buy a cheap soldering iron; it's a good tool to have.

Logitech keyboard suck in that regard. With the G413 you need to remove nearly every keycap (Romer g so be careful), remove a dozen of screws with two of them beein hidden below the rubber feet's before you get into it.

Side note: G413 is a single layer PCB so it could be a broken trace in this case you need to run a wire and soldering cost as much as glue so just solder it.

I already removes the caps and screws and looked inside it

you can make your own cold heat soldering iron using a pencil lead and alligator clips hooked up to a car battery. it's janky but Iv'e done it in a pinch. A #2 pencil lead is also a 9 ohm resistor but has a melting point of about 5,000+ degrees F, even higher melting point than tungsten. it might not want to cooperate with flux but it could also potentially easily resolder a loose connection.

I am not responsible for any user error and this is not for the faint of heart. you can easily burn yourself or start a fire if the pencil lead touches something while it's heated up, and this is a hypothetical solution that I have done my self in a pinch. do not try this at home kids, and I don't condone making one like I did.
