I am always seeing in like every thread something like this.

Question: "Hey everyone I want to buy a GTX 760 for gaming, which cooler should I get?"

Answer: "Don't get a 760 man, 280X is same price get that"

Same thing for when there is a question about SLI 760/770's ( How much watt they need or if a CPU bottlenecks it )

The answer is always offtopic like: Get a 780(Ti)! DONT SLI 760/770S and such instead of helping him out with the question he asked you.

This is somewhat annoying in my opinion, okay I must admit I have done the same in the past but it's just not right to do I think.

Opinions?

here's the thing, not everyone knows that a 780ti would beat sli 760/770 or that the 280X is better than 760, and as such its good to explain the options they have instead of only answering their questions, tho try to answer the question aswell

I think that if you can advise someone to a better option to save them money, then do it. If the person absolutely wants to get what he wants for a particular reason, then that is his decision to make. All the person has to do is say, "I want to go route (a) because of reasons (a) ( B) and/or ©."

Exactly. A lot of people think SLI'ing two lower end cards would beat out one higher end card. We're just giving constructive criticism.

dont really agree

those answers are correct  except the second one because if he already own a 760 then sli is a good idea but if its was "should i get 760 and sli two of them or 780ti" then 780ti is a better choice

people that ask these questions dont know better

we need to guide them

Actually both things are true...some people, they dont know what is best for them...recommending them something else entirely makes sense there...but some people are like they want to get the same and same thing only...they get frustrated with that kind of reply..so i think the OP in any thread should state clearly what type of recommendations he likes... :)

As much as I'm a new member I really have to agree, looking through threads and stuff were the person asks a pretty straightforward question only to be directed in a completely other direction is very annoying and kind of off putting especially to new users such as myself. If however the reply is: "You could get cooler A with the GTX 760, that would work well but I think you should consider the 280X with cooler B because that might be better for you." that sort of reply both answers the persons question and gives a helpful piece of advice. When someone simply disregards the question being asked and says something completely different that they think the poster should do it is very discouraging to the original poster. Just some food for thought.

I think this is obnoixous, depending on the questions wording.

If the comment says "I already have one, should I get another"

Then telling them not to get one at all, isn't a valid answer,

but if they're asking about getting two, or one, then suggesting one (whether it's red or green team), would be best.

Also, backing up the information you give with graphs, information, and sources will help everyone in the end.

I agree on the fact the 780Ti beats SLI 760/770's but just that people don't actually answer the main question is the point I'm making.

If you combine the answer with a good advice it would already be much better.

Well you should always answer the original question but if for some reason a person only wants to answer one or the other I would rather them give the OP the answer that will save them money or get them the better experience for the better price. People may want one thing but they may need somehting else. This is essentially the same thing. If they think X is the best when in reality Y is much better we should inform them that Y is better and tell him why that is.

Yeah, but the part where the question he asked doesn't get answered at all anymore and a discussing starts why x is better than y..

I know what you mean but I think instead of people just saying don't get that get this they should explain each option, ask questions about budget and nvidia/AMD preference. Give him the knowledge so that he can make a purchase that is good for him.

Personally, I see no issue with doing that.

Sure you may not be answering their exact question, but you're giving them a better response.

Oh my god i hate this so much, i see it everyday on Tom's hardware. A guy asks a question about nvidia and this guy just goes offtopic with AMD even if he doesn't want anything from AMD but just to get his quesiton answered. This is a example in which fanboism has to do with it but it's also very annoying.

Well the person asking becomes better informed in the end and the underlying question as to "what should I buy" is answered. Sure "What cooler should I buy" is not answered but at the end of the day he knows what he is or is not getting.

If I wanted opinions on what card I wanted, I would ASK that.

If I wanted to know what cooler to get, I want to know that.

If I have already picked a card, I likely have my own reasons. I don't need non-rankers on the internet whipping out their penises trying to impress me with their GPU knowledge.

Nvidia and AMD fanboys are up there as the worst scum on the internet.

I think answering the question should be done and then if you want to give some advice that is fine too. What has been getting on my nerves the most is some one saying "I want to get a 4770k and a gtx780 but don't know if I should get an asus or evga?" and the answer is wait for maxwell 800series cards and the haswell refresh with no other advice given. We are probably at least 3-6 months if not more out from them. If people waited every time on what maybe coming they would never build a system, computers are always advancing and we can speculate what is coming out and 85% of the time we probably speculate right, but again most people thought ivy-e was going to be 8 core and that didn't happen.

As long as your not mean to him, it should be fine. Maybe he didnt know of some things. no needs to say something when someones asking for watt with PSUs but if the 280X is same price as a 760 i damn recommend a better card lol
