What to replace MAG CORE Liquid 360R with?

tatsukage13

Today I was playing Far Cry 6 and for the first time my pc did a thermal shutdown.  The only real change I made recently was I took it to microcenter for cable management because I couldn't be bothered to do it myself.  after reapplying thermal paste and double checking my mount.  I ran a quick cpu test from time spy.  my results were pretty bad.  So I'm thinking of just replacing my cooler, but with what?

maxed out pump and fan speeds? Maybe RMA it since it's doing way worse than reviews.

Is Hwinfo64 showing "Frequency limit" below "Infinity fabric frequency" and "memory controller frequency"?

in the frequency limit row it's i think the cpu throttled during the test since it shows 550mhz as minimum, even after re-running it just now, i'll double check the mobo to see if the pump is properly plugged in though since that just popped into my mind as a possibility.  the temps before microcenter weren't amazing but were better than this

nah I'm asking to see if frequency cap is a thing. Ryzen CPUs have a problem with high temperatures under low core count use because it aggressively raises the frequency to maximize single core performance. Frequency cap can stop it from doing so if it is adjustable.

What's the pump and fan rpm at under load?

I have my fans all through 2 hubs that connect to the cpu header and my pump to the pump header.  I can see/hear the fans ra,p up no problem and the pump rpm says between 3700rpm and 4200rpm.  this is from a short cpu time spy test but the temps went down by almost 10C after i tried wiggling the block and ever so slightly barely loosening the 2 scres for the block

I have a 5600X that strongly disagrees with you.

I would recommend the one I am using.. Themalright FC140.

Your sure you have it mounted properly?  TIM is good? I only ask because you took your system to Micro Center to manage your cables.. You should probably let it run itself with PBO. From what I can see in the info you provided, nothing in your system is running cool.

I'm starting to think the 90C+ temps were from a bad mount however its not weird for this cooler to go above 80 even before i took it to microcenter.  I'mm running a 5600X @4.6GHz & 1.27V.  I'm not on PBO just a static OC.  It was 4.65GHz before i started tinkering today.  What is your Freq and V.?

On my 5600X I run 2000 1:1 15-15-15-36 2T 1.45v CPU at 4700 1.3v, but can run some benches at 4900MHz, air cooled of course 👍🏻

I might just go back to air cooling, i'll have less fans in my case that way.  currently have 11.  6 on the RAD

Seems like the cooling block isn't evenly mounted. Try reseating it and making sure to tighten gradually and evenly in an X-pattern. It should also be fully tightened.

it clips onto the stock ryzen clips so only 2 points of contact

Ah, that type of mounting may be even more difficult to mount evenly but it's just as important to do so.

I have 4 case fans currently, 3 in 1 out. And a single fan on my CPU cooler.. 3 of them are good for 2500-3000 RPM, and the other two top out at about 1700-1800 RPM. The weakest one is 82 CFM I think. It works out to about 307cfm in and110 out, and no pci covers so the air just flows.. but the cost of all that fun is noise, she can be loud AF and she knows how to get rowdy. Most of the time she is pretty good though sorta. I used to run 5x 120x38s, a 140x25, and a 92x35 in this little Meshify C.. its much quieter now.. also have the top completely sealed and damped.
