Each new successive generation of graphics, we often hear a lot about Epic’s new engine, or Crytek’s new one and Unity gets a lot of press for its multi-platform outputs, but Bravely Default developer, Silicon Studio, shouldn’t get left out, as its new engine tech demo is incredibly pretty – especially the up close detailing

All I can say is this looks amazing.

I remember a website predicted that by 2014, all the trailers we usually see for video games that are CGI will actually look like that in-game. Im starting to see that prediction come true but maybe not until 2015 :P

it all depends, from the tech demo i saw of the new UDK engine we just need better lightning effects in games, and gpu's that can handle them better, i mean the show i saw, when they turned off all lights the scene looked worse than Unreal Tournament 1 :P in many ways, but with the lights it was one of the best looking things i have seen.

And what kind of graphics horsepower do you need to run this? sure it looks good, but if you need SLI Titan Blacks then it still makes no sense.

I didnt actually think it looked that good, maybe it was just a boring scene, the detail up close looked ok but it has a really CGI look to it, it looks really computerized its hard to explain, the textures werent really that detailed, I think the main reason it looked nice was that the lighting and depth of field were very beautifully rendered

also in game will not look anything like this. this is pre-rendered and probably took ages to render

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

I'm glad to see more investment into details than just pure textures and physics. We need AI and lighting so games feel alive, that's why mmos work, half of the players aren't npcs.

The textures they weren't focusing on were really low detail (not talking about FoD) and the reflection of the sunglare was clipping through pillars.

Remember when game packaging had artistic renderings on the front and back of boxes for 8 bit games?

I think of those days whenever I see a modern trailer for a game these days.
