4K monitors - 32” VA vs 27” IPS

I’m trying to decide between two different monitors from LG at the same price point for my MacBook Pro. The monitor will be used for editing & grading videos for my YouTube channel.

I’m deciding between the LG 27UP850-W and LG 32UP550-W.

Comparison: https://www.lg.com/us/compare?bizType=B2C&modelId=MD08000010:MD08000732

Which one do you recommend for my use (video/photo editing)?

I do wholeheartedly appreciate all the help.

I have a dedicated editing rig in the house and it uses a LG 32" 4k VA monitor with 28" 4k monitor pivoted 90% beside it.

I an not a fan of 27" 4k monitors for editing. I used them for 2 years an learned not to like them.

If you need IPS why not this one.

i dont like any of the 4k 60 monitors available atm, cause anything 4k and wide gamut is gonna cost alot, 1440p wide gamut cost about the same as a 4k srgb option

but if it has to be 4k, i'd trust rtings, go with the 2721S

It heavily depends what color space you work with. If you're gonna clamp the colors to sRGB the VA will look better due to the higher contrast. If you work in DCI-P3, then IPS is your only option as there are no VA monitors that get close to full DCI-P3 coverage afaik.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Why is it you don't like the 27" monitors?

A lot of tools that I used did not scale so unreadable on one.  At 1440p they were readable so I like 27" 1440p monitors.

I was a freelance 3D designer and used lots of development tools that did not have user friendly interfaces. The only program I use now that does not scale is Heaven bench.

Ah OK, so was it only based on the the unfriendly interfaces that you had. So programs with better interfaces were fine?

Yes.

The tools I used were not designed for the public and I used them because I did 3D design for a living.

I still use the first 28" Samsung 4k monitor I bought in 2015 on my test bench since I test in 1080p ,1440p and 4k. Using a larger monitor would just get in the way.
