lenovo legion 5 pro or lenovo legion 5

What should I opt for, the legion 5 pro which has Ryzen 7 5800H with RTX 3060 or the legion 5 which has intel core i7 10750H with GTX 1650 ti, if I have to use it for long time (like 8+ years). I need it for my college use and 1080p gaming at medium setting. Which will last longer?

The 3060 will perform better for longer, but 1080p medium isn't crushing the 1650Ti either.  How much is the price difference, I am curious.

 

8 years?  Is there some reason this is the time frame?  I usually buy things for now and then replace when they start lacking.  I don't buy for 8-10 years of use unless the item is made for it, like HVAC or appliances.

 

Depending on your money situation, I'd buy the 3060 and enjoy more performance.   Then replace in 5 years when a couple generations are released.

ryzen 7 5800h is already better cpu than the i7 and rtx 3060 is better than 1650ti so this should be obvious

i live in India and here the price difference is INR 50k which in American dollars is $673 and in Canadian dollars is CAD 850. And for the time, nearly 7-8 years. But if you could tell me the approx. lifetime of both the laptops it would be of great help as it would help me to decide which should I go for coz I need a laptop that would las long.

it should be still obvious? the laptop with 5800H lasts longer. also laptops performance does not decrease pretty much at all. But games and programs get more demanding, that is why it can feel like it.

As said, performance drops due to newer stuff requiring more resources.  

 

It's a crap shoot to be honest.  Both will physically last 8-10 years.  You pay $700 for one that performs at medium and then low over that time frame, or you pay $1500 for one that performs high and then medium over that time frame.  You can also spend the $700 now and then $700 in 5 years to do a step process.

 

Only you can decide what scenario fits your budget.  I can say what I would do, but I have $1500 I can spend and also want better performance NOW.

Also, the Legion 5 Pro Display is massively better than the standard Display on the older Legion 5 (the last year's model had some issues with the hinges, Lenovo did fix them in the current model.

 

The Display is also 2560x1600, so use that resolution for Gaming. That's where you can use the higher performance of the 3060 pretty damn good.
