Is Buying A Cooling Pad Worth It?

Isaac Foster

So I have a blazing hot laptop that runs 90 Degrees when playing heavy games, so I decided to buy a cooling pad/vacuum to help the laptop cooling, but I kind of confused what to buy.
So a cooling pad (My Opinion) is giving airflow to the laptop fans so it can output more heat. Right? XD I don't know anything.

A Vacuum is vacuuming heat that came out from the vents of the laptop so it helps outputting heat, just like the fans on the laptop. (That Is Also My Opinion, Correct me if I am Wrong.)
But here is the thing, what is better? what is cheaper? what is the model that I should buy?

They definitely work, but I don't know which one is going to be better for you. For pricing you'd have to look yourself, I imagine there's a wide range of pricing for either type.

extra fans and airflow, sure.

but worth it and if its always worth it?

A lot of the more useful ones might be way more expensive than they should be.

gaming laptops are a tricky balance.  Many manufactures try and throw as much power into the computer, but because they also want it to be portable, dont always have enough space to properly dissipate that heat.  The main thing for you to do would be not necessarily to force more air through the laptop, but to first make sure that the laptop can get the air its supposed to. Start with giving the cooling unit in the laptop a good clean, remove all the dust in the fins.  Next, make sure that the external vents are clear.  no dust, no carpet, no nothing.  Finally, if you can, set the laptop on blocks.  This way air can escape from the bottom sides, and top.  always use it on a hard surface, that should be without saying.  Fabric can often get sucked into the vent obstructing air flow and mattresses or couches are great at holding heat and sending it back into the laptop.

Jarrod'sTech did an excellent video on this topic last year, I suggest you take a look at it.

TL:DR There is a point in using a cooling pad, but don't expect miracles.
There isn't much difference between them, they will all pretty much perform the same.

From my own experience dirt cheap cooling pads do have some downsides:
1) Fan(s) either loud from the start or after a few months / a year.
2) Rubbish build quality... If plastic expect it to break easily if you carry it in a backpack, feet snapping off and stuff like that.
Hence why I prefer spending a bit more, like 40$ and getting a metal framed one.
Also if you don't want high pitched noises pick one that has a single larger fan instead of 5 tiny ones.

I think single fans Cooler is not enough for my laptop, my laptop has 2 fans on left and right and no airflow from the middle. The airflow for the fans are in the right and left corner of the bottom cover. So I don't think a Single fan will do a difference, but if you think it's good I will buy it 🙂

Well, laptop cooling pad is a hit or miss. This heavily depends on your laptop as well and the cooling vent location. You want to buy a cooling pad that has a fan underneath where your laptop fan is to get a decent cooling performance. It doesn't matter if the cooling pad is plastic or aluminium because the rubber feet of your laptop keeps the base from contacting with the cooling pad.

This, my friend, you have to do a lot of research on your own.

That was the cheapest I could find that was made out of metal... but after reading the reviews (always read the reviews heh) it turns out there is plenty of plastics also... So nah, I wouldn't recommend it.

As for more than one fan... it doesn't matter, watch the whole video. The difference between laptop sitting on a desk and and cooling pad can be noticeable. Difference between a laptop sitting on a pad and the cooler being turned on / off is much smaller, and then the difference between bigger / faster / more coolers is even less important.
