RX 6700 XT MSI Mech 2X decent cooler?

Barbona

Does the 6700 xt msi mech 2x have a decent cooler?
Didn't find any review for this model in particular, only the "Gaming X" variant, which seems to be other card

That cooler cools my RTX 2060 just fine and is quiet.

Nope, expect it to run *very* hot.

2 fans + cheap msi model + amd seems like a combo from hell 😄

Im not saying its a bad card, im saying you do not need to heat your room in winters anymore :3

"Temperatures for the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT MECH 2X 12G OC ran at 80C under full loads, which shows MSI's cooling solution performs struggles under high loads. However, it makes little noise. The idle temps we saw were 47C, which is also high for a GPU of this size."Jun 25, 2021

no prob! the gaming x runs cooler as its their non cheapo model but i would still prefer a 3 fan solution generally.

Generally, try to avoid dual fan cooled GPU, this is true for both AMD and nVidia, as most dual fan vid cards run pretty hot. I have a Nitro+ RX 6900 XT, with room ambient temp at ~24C, my GPU idles at ~29C/~34C Junction. Under load, after an hour of RE Village (stresses GPU at 3840x1080, max ingame + RT), I see GPU temps at ~65C core, 86C Junction temp.

In my neck of the woods, there was a thread about GTX 3060, some had advised others to go for the more expensive triple fan models, stressing that they'd regret getting dual fan models as they tend to run pretty hot.....and we're in the tropics, where ambient tmep (without aircon) can be a tad on the warm side.

When it comes to AMD cards, I usually stick with the big three AIB's, Sapphire/PowerColor/XFX.....and only triple fan models, just like the used PowerColor Vega 64 Red Devil for my 2nd rig, and a Leadtek GTX 1080 Hurricane OC I'd gotten for my HTPC.

The only Dual Fan 6700XT I'd consider is the reference design.

Work Rigs - 2015 15" MBP | 2019 15" MBP | 2021 16" M1 Max MBP | Lenovo ThinkPad T490 |

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X  |  MSI B550 Gaming Plus  |  64GB G.SKILL 3200 CL16 4x8GB |  AMD Reference RX 6800  |  WD Black SN750 1TB NVMe  |  Corsair RM750  |  Corsair H115i RGB Pro XT  |  Corsair 4000D  |  Dell S2721DGF  |

Fun Rig - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X  |  MSI B550 Tomahawk  |  32GB G.SKILL 3600 CL16 4x8GB |  AMD Reference 6800XT  | Creative Sound Blaster Z  |  WD Black SN850 500GB NVMe  |  WD Black SN750 2TB NVMe  |  WD Blue 1TB SATA SSD  |  Corsair RM850x  |  Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT  |  Corsair 4000D  |  LG 27GP850  |

Thanks, i think i'm going to go with a 6700 xt sapphire nitro +. I was kinda scared of gpu sag, but it seems this card is actually lighter than my rx 580... so shouldn't be any problems there..

Not a problem, look out for the XFX MERC319 as well, I'd have gotten it instead of the Sapphire had Amazon not messed up. Wait if you can, price of GPU's is headed down (though it has slowed somewhat), and do keep an eye out for an RX 6800  as the 6800/6900 are completely different beasts, though the 6700 XT would be pretty good at 1080P/1440P gaming.

BTW, I have adjusted the fans on my card to a rather aggressive fan curve as I don't mind the noise. At default setting, the Nitro+ will run a tad hot because fans are tuned for very quiet performance (just 800rpm according to HWUB video review). Raising fan speed will help bring down temps, just up to you to decide on your custom fan curve. Also, having good airflow in a case helps....a lot!
