The card seems real, 8 pci-e lanes going to the slot,  the right mix of connectors, the right specs ... the box looks genuine as well.

Now you have to figure out if it's the starting price of an auction or the "buy it now" price,  and also if you're talking about ebay, make sure it's not a hacked account - don't buy from an account that has very few listings or previous sales in the past (should have a few sells in the last 6 months)  and should have sold something IT related (don't buy from someone that previously sold only books or music cds or stamps or dolls or perfumes for example, high chance that's a hacked/stolen/bought ebay account)

The card in the photo does indeed look like the real RX550 4GB from Asus.

Though an RX550 isn't very good, about on par with a GT 1030. Don't expect much from it.

so the seller says its a rx550 4gb for $50...... is it real or did he just grab a real box and a fake card?

The card and the box are legit...

But is it too good to be true (current market pricing)? Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if the card died and was "reflowed" to get a month more out of it.

Well, that really depends on what you want to do with the card. The GTX 1060 is a significantly better graphics card, but it is over 4 times the price. If you just want a cheap GPU to upgrade an old office PC so the kids can play minecraft or League of Legends the RX 550 4GB will get the job done. If you're wanting to play more demanding titles then the 1060 will be a better pick if you're willing to spend the money.

Just had a look and found the original listing. The seller has a good rating and their other active listings are for computer related stuff, a laptop, tablet, and a gaming PC. Their reviews are mostly for "computers" or "computer accessories" over the past year. Nothing really stands out as being suspicious from what I can see.

It's a pickup only deal, so you could always ask if they'd be willing to let you test it before you buy to make sure it still works. It's only $50 and if there's other people willing to buy it on the spot it might not be worth their time to let you test it, so if they say "No, I'd rather meet at the local mall and do the trade" that doesn't necessarily mean it's fake/broken. Probably wouldn't hurt to ask though.

Medium/High end cards require additional power and the PSU in those systems might not be able to support higher end cards. The RX550 receives its power through the PCIe slot so having a PSU with a 6/8pin PCIe connector isn't a requirement. This makes the RX 550 and GT 1030 good options for upgrading old prebuilt machines that might not come with additional power connectors.

But, that particular model Asus RX 550 card is not low profile. The low profile cards are much narrower and come with a low profile bracket.

This is a picture of a low profile MSI GT 1030 (with a normal full size IO bracket, right) next to the Asus RX 550 4GB (left). You can see the RX 550 is much wider than the low profile GT 1030 card.
