Microsoft BUILD - Microsoft CarPlay Concept

Watching the BUILD event videos, Microsoft introduced their new version of embed car system, (Apple CarPlay, like system).

Microsoft is not new to systems in the car, they have Windows Embedded Automotive version of Windows since a while, and had system in Ford's, BMW's, FIAT and more.

It feature GPS with Bing Map (of course), XBox Music, stream music from Windows Phone 8.1, FM/AM radio tuner, access to your music library, and run select Windows 8 Modern UI apps.

Now this is only concept stages.

And the video was more talking about Windows 8 for embedded systems, to run on ultra low performing device, such as Intel's Galileo board, a 400MHz single core system.

The OS looks like this, if you wonder:

i'm feeling car purchases are now going to be based on what phone do you have instead of what you actually want, unless car manufactures, made different version of the same car

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Yeah it kinda is, coming from someone who uses a windows phone and had to delete photos to install more apps that i wanted on my phone WP does not have a shortage of apps anymore. The only app i want is YouTube, everything else is there plus some even better apps than android and ios.

I'm sorry but even putting aside my anti-microsoft Bias, I automatically think that anything related to a car is as frivolous as the car industry who just loves to add tons of useless shit to artificially pad out the cost of a car: Leather sits, "nicer" rims and all sorts of ridiculous car stereo permutations up to and including this. Maybe I'm wrong but if you actually purchase a car that includes all of this bullshit "deluxe" options I automatically think you can't handle salesmen and got ripped off.

They have a lot of work to do, I think.

When you're in a car your focus needs to be on the road. The interface you use to control your music, phone calls, GPS and anything else needs to be extremely simple and intuitive and take as little time to operate as possible - and I don't think this quite meets that requirement yet. No other system in cars has yet either that I'm aware of, but nonetheless I'm going to hold Microsoft to a higher standard on this... if there's one thing they've shown on Windows Phone it's that they understand how to create a good interface for a particular type of device.

I read that  the upcoming WP8.1 update will give users the ability to install apps on the memory card. That should be a massive update for all the apps junkie out there although I myself only use about 1.5GB for apps, and I always upload my photos to the OneDrive.

Eh,I think it should be the other way around. Phone purchase will be based on what cars you have :)

People like to own nice cars. Just like people like to own nice PCs. Sure we could all get by on a $400 budget build, but if you really want to why not go all out. Add all of the bells and whistles because... why not?
