You can export the key before deleting as a backup just in case.

Alright, thanks. Actually i found another way:  create text file > rename text file extension to "exe" > do the whole "open with" thing > associate the file with the newly created "exe" file > delete the "exe" file > reboot pc > try to open the files in question > it wont work and windows resets it to default, blank state…

But, i'll try deleting the key next time, that actually seems to be a lot less hassle!

Edit: well, this is actually the "fix" that worked for me, its dumb, but it would probably work with any program, but that would require to install a more or less random program, its better to use a selfmade "exe"  😃

i tried opening a "usf" file with gimp… didnt work, but now it shows the gimp icon for all usf files…

i guess i could change it back to default (nothing) in registry, but how?

Just go into default app for file in settings and then go to the file type and change the opener

To get to the settings page you go into default apps and on the left or right side there is a button that says default app for file and scroll down to it

no, i want to remove the file association, i dont have a program that can open these files manually…

thats the problem its incredibly easy to add an association for a file, but not to remove said association, in windows 10.

You can search for the extension from the list it gives and have it open regedit to the corresponding location to get rid of the settings for it.

Well, i actually tried that (without the software)

I dont really know how i should change it?

value data was set to "usf_auto_file"

neither deleting that nor changing to (value not set) worked lol…
