This, just replace "voltage" with "current". It's likely that this CPU will no longer OC quite as high, but other than that it is fine.

 

You will not "short" your motherboard. No harm will come to the motherboard. The most likely worst case scenario is that the CPU is no longer stable at stock settings and needs to be downclocked.

so say the pin from the motherboard makes contact with the damaged pad (which lets say it no longer works), what would happen then? where would the "current" go ?

In layman terms, it takes the detour around through the other pins. Like if 1 lane on a 100 lane highway was closed. Traffic in the remaining 99 lanes get's a bit denser. But if there already wasn't much traffic to begin with, all's good.

Yep. It should be, but if not, there should be miguiverable ways for fix it.

so worst case scenario, i put it in and the worst is what, a black screen or a potential downclock. No damage to the socket? just wanna ensure i dont have to spend another £120 on a new motherboard

First, why are you posting the same question over and over?

 

Second, you do not communicate that the mark is a burn in this thread. You show only pictures after cleaning which make it look like a broken, sharp socket pin damaged the gold pad. If it's a burn, you should obviously be more cautious.

In the attached images I had shown an image with the burn mark on lol. I just forgot to mention that in the post. The reason behind multiple posts is i was trying to draw in a wide variety of opinions on it because I just don’t wanna mess anything up again.

Posting three topics on the same forum is going to get you the same answer. If you want a wide variety of opinions, post on other forums like HardOCP, TPU, Overclockerz... etc.

 

In my opinion, if I had another CPU like you seem to, I'd not bother with this one unless you have a spare board that you don't care about. You likely won't fry a new board, but why risk it when you have a working system. Keep it around until you upgrade, or buy a cheap second hard board just for this.
