Choosing a color accurate monitor

th3infinity

Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum so please excuse any posting mistake if this is not the right place for my topic !

I am looking for a new video editing and occasional gaming monitor. I do part time video editing, so the color accuracy is really important. I am totally aware that in order to achieve a state of the art accuracy I would need the screen to be calibrated, so I am open to any options about a calibration device as well.

After doing some digging I came across the following options:

Benq PD2700U -- https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/designer/pd2700u.html

Benq PD3200U -- https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/designer/pd3200u.html

Dell U2720Q     -- https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-ultrasharp-27-4k-usb-c-monitor-u2720q/apd/210-bbzu/monitors-monitor-accessories

LG 27UL850-W -- https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UL850-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor#

Which one do you guys think might be "the best" ?
Do you know of any other option in this price range ? (under 800$)

Thanks!

out of those 4, the only one i'd use for any color work is the dell, just based on specs, this is better and the best 4k color monitor you'll get for the price

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1594380-REG/msi_32_creator_ps321urv_monitor.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_naSEvdm-bJxhyWzIkxW7w8YrFhwnH_OhVGYg50C-qcit-lXWO4AUGxoC8FoQAvD_BwE

though for the amount you are already paying

Though i'd probably pay 1100 for this than anything under 800usd new

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1545191-REG/asus_pa329c_32_wide_16_9_proart_4k.html (i paid 800 for something slightly worse and not 4k)

if u have to keep it under 800, then the msi is better than the 4 u listed, though the color coverage isn't better than some of the 1440p high refresh monitors, the cost comes from a combination of 4k and having decent colors.

if you don't need it to be 4k, then i found this one ebay used (i found one for 120usd shipped pre-covid)

which looks better than everything listed above except the asus

Personally i'd be picking between the NEC used or the asus new.

Any monitor can be 'accurate' within its reproducible colour gamut, it just needs calibrating.

The vast majority of monitors come out of the factory with a poor calibration not suitable for colour accurate work, as such those who use displays in such ways need to invest in a basic colorimeter like an X-Rite i1 Display Pro.

The question is, What color spaces will you be working in, and what degree of cover do you want for those spaces for ur given task, 75%, 80%, 100% ?
