PC FOR CNC MACHINING SHOP

Hailsham

Hello everyone!

My company is planning to move into a new place and we will have new pc's and network. In the shop, there will be 4 machines and 4 computers next to them. We used to have pc's inside a seperate room because of the metal dust flying in the air. Should I go passive cooling or any other way to keep dust away from the pc?

Also, we have a network of 10 computers right now and they are connecting to a sdd in a windows pc. Other computers only browse folders, write and read(It is not running windows server). Do we need a pc that runs server version?

I would love some help!

Thank you!

you can do a remote KVM for those machines, and leave the towers away from the metal dust.

Passively cooled machines have more open air holes to allow for more convection.

That would still be highly recommended if you could do it, but if not, passive cooling is a good idea.

What level of hardware were you using for the PCs before? And what OS is needed? A few passive coolers come to mind for Ryzen processors but if you're running windows 7, that wouldn't be an option

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

When I went to Computex long time ago a very friendly guy at Silverstone booth demonstrated me a PC case with hepa filters for inhospitable environment. He told me that it was designed for desert environment so maybe you can look at that as well.

not sure are they producing it anymore, but Google is your friend

You can get industrial IP rated PCs for use in a workshop though a KVM and cheapish monitor would get you a lot more bang for the buck for the a dual tower.

I work in automation (electrical design engineer) and we do a lot of cnc controls upgrades amongst other things. 90% of the time they either have some old dell chugging along covered in crap or an IPC mounted to a control panel so There’s a few options

Heck recently I’ve seen a very old pc (a beige beauty) dumped in a control cabinet  with a crude cutout for a ghetto monitor installation on the door. The air con on/in the cabinet kept the pc going, if you took it outside of the cabinet it overheated within a few minutes haha. This was at a well known company that had a very marketed 2 day sale this week
