Apple Makes its BEST Products WORSE on Purpose. Why?

Apple has put its excellent M1 SoC in basically everything it can, including the new iPad Pro. But it wasn't the PROCESSOR that was holding the iPad back from being a good "computer"...

From my point of view apple cripples IPad Os is kinda simple, they don't want to "kill" macbook air, a lot of macbook air users that I know, have a big tablet(mostly ipad) to watch netflix and things on their bed or to take to classes to do simple notes(for example) but uses mac for their normal use, like doing complex presentations, writing documents, doing art and more. I think if their thought is that because ipad pro has pen support, thunderbolt and a good spec, if they put MacOs there, most graphics designers and normal when replacing their older macs or macbook airs, would ended up buying a ipad and then killing part of their market

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

more representative than normal. Apple makes its best products worse on purpose adequately sums it up for me. The title is meant to be viewed with the thumbnail.

Apple's MO isn't really to hobble products to avoid cannibalization. This is more of a philosophical issue — Apple doesn't think desktop operating systems are well-served by touch, and doesn't want to lose the simplicity of iPadOS. That doesn't mean it's completely right (I'd say iPad OS should get more desktop-level sophistication), but it would be happy to sell you an iPad Pro instead of a MacBook Pro. Remember, the pricing of those two isn't far off.

Many do, but not always for the right reasons. It'd be good to have more flexibility for iPad apps, and that'd be the key to letting the Epic Games Store run the way Epic wants it.

 

At the same time, some of the people clamoring hardest for sideloading have... not-so-pure intentions at heart. It's sometimes about competition, but I don't think it's a secret that some advocates just want the 'freedom' to pirate apps and media. You need looser app restrictions if you just want better third-party browsers or media playback support; you don't need to circumvent the App Store entirely.

You could argue that Apple doesn't want to take sales away from the Mac, since the very minute you turn an iPad into a laptop people will dump their Macbook Airs. On the other side of the argument (and this is an old one) can you really call a tablet a PC? Even the Surface Pro with keyboard and expansion dock (which I own) still in more than one way doesn't match what a proper 4K laptop can do, let alone a desktop system with all the bells and whistles attached.

 

At the end of the day you could call Apple evil all you want for deliberately holding back features/functionality and nerfing their products. But have you considered the very possibility that Apple is treating their user base as low-IQ and tech illiterate??? "Children and infants" don't have $2000 disposable income for Christ's sake. When they stop you doing something so simple as changing a battery that's a huge red flag. When they force users to toss hardware that's still functional and spend on new replacements because of "upgrades" they are robbing your money. Where do you think all that used hardware ends up? It's certainly not being recycled by Apple - the company is an environmental disaster.

 

For anybody expecting their tablet to be a computer - it ain't gonna happen. And it's been that way since the very first iPad came out. Learn to use the right tool for the job!

Are there any pirated Android/iOS apps left anyway, in any significant scale? Every single app nowadays is free or "freemium" at least.

At the same time, some of the people clamoring hardest for sideloading have... not-so-pure intentions at heart. No problem with third-party browsers of better media playback (I assume using files not supported by VLC and ATV running directly off phone storage). Does the average iPad user care about these though? Probably not.

This is fully correct. Apple's target audience is students with lots of money from mum and pop, and old people. I ring up lots of old people as part of my job, trust me they couldn't figure out how to use a website for the life of them. They want to feel young and trendy, so they buy an iPad, which is super user-friendly for them.

For anybody expecting their tablet to be a computer - it ain't gonna happen. And it's been that way since the very first iPad came out. Learn to use the right tool for the job!

It really depends what you're using your computing for. iPad has FAR superior apps for noting stuff than windows. You could say use a graphics tablet, but windows apps are clunky and slow. Similarly, I can edit some video in iMovie. For someone like me, a non professional just wanting to create something cool, iMovie does my job well. I own a desktop, two laptops, a phone and an ipad. Guess which computer I like to use for non work stuff? I am a developer btw.

There are, although it's true that freemium apps soften the blow. It's mainly paid games and productivity apps. And of course, piracy can include bootlegging media as well. There are legit uses in some cases, of course, but there are also folks who don't like that the App Store limits make it difficult to "acquire" videos and music without paying.

They can make the hardware as good as they like - if they don't make massive improvements to their Android build, they've already lost.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Your logic is similar to the logic of Internet censorship advocates. "We will control everything that is going on in the Internet because we don't want people to see extremist materials". Well, sure, there are there, but 1) isn't controlling the entire Internet a "slight" overkill? 2) those materials are going to be there in some form regardless.

 

Same with Apple. Apple is using security and anti-piracy as a convenient excuse to hold an iron grip over its ecosystem, and, if you want to pirate, you will find a way to do it anyway (jailbreak has always been and will always be a thing).

And they'll fail to do that. Samsung doesn't have enough influence to force developers to make dedicated versions of their apps for tablets, and Google doesn't give a damn.

Oh, I'm not denying that it's a messy situation; it's more that some of the loudest advocates for sideloading are sometimes the ones with the poorest excuses for it. And in other cases, the criticisms are more things that could be addressed by looser App Store policies than sideloading.
