Is DayZ dead?

No one plays it anymore apparently. Like seriously I have to play by myself because no one wants to play. Is it dead because people got tired of it, or because it's full of bugs and still in alpha?

Well it's the 11th most played game on Steam right now but a lot of people aren't playing it because of bugs.  You'll see a large increase in the amount of people playing when updates are pushed to the stable branch, then a few days later people will stop playing again because zombies still walk through walls and things still need fixing.  The game is definitely not dead, every update is huge and adds/fixed loads of things.

It's a good game, but a lot of people get connectivity issues which puts them off apart from the zombies walking through walls and such! I think when the game becomes more polished and stable the crowd will join again.

Played about 40hrs of it, then went back to mod. So much more stable and developed. I know you lose the whole customization with clothing etc but epoch has base building with an economy and the plugins available make it much more refineable imo. Personal preference although will be looking at standalone again when significant updates are introduced (beta, full release etc)

I dont think it's dead, but I would feel pretty angry if i bought a high end system and i played a game like DayZ in alpha, which spits on your setup regardless of what you have inside. When it's out of early access and it hopefully doesnt get impacted by Dean Hall's departure, you might see more people and myself wanting to play DayZ

If you've seen Dean's presentation at Rezzed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es42HrtPB3I#t=72) then you'll see that they're doing an absolute tonne this year.  I really don't think that Dean leaving at the end of the year will negatively impact the development of DayZ as much as some may think.  The team is great and they've got a fair amount of people working on it.  It seems as though most of the features will be implemented in DayZ by the end of the year or soon after and the majority of the development time post adding those will be spent optimising the game.

I haven't finished watching everything from Rezzed yet but take a look at Dean's presentation I linked to, it's really insightful and should give everyone a lot of hope in the game and its future.

I think it's going to be a masterpiece in a couple of years time. But for now I think the main issues are the bugged zombies and how hard it is to run  the game

It sucks now, but that's just what alpha is. Once beta comes around it should be much better (hopefully). I think it has tons of petential as long as they do it right. I quit playing a while ago just because of the zombies glitching through walls and the horrible white vision you get when you start to die that sticks with you if you regain blood :mellow: .

the game has so much BIG problems, and the developers just keep not caring about them. They focus in such stupid things like hats, when they should on core gameplay

You can't make every developer work on fixing a problem, they each do things in their own departments and aren't going to stop working until something is fixed.  If you read the DayZ forums then they're working hard on bug fixing, they even bought a studio to help develop the game.

A lot of people are starting to take a break from playing DayZ. There are peeps with over 700 hours of play time, and it's still an alpha! I play on and off as more is added - I'm only 70 hours in, but I'm in no rush to overplay it yet.

Its still in Alpha, most people dont want to play an alpha game. Once Its done and the modding community gets a hold of it and we see a proper Epoch etc People will go back to it.

its not dead. reason why im not playing is due to one bug. and every time they do bloody update they dont fix it. Its simple glitch but never gets fixed. its zombies running through a closed door. Im like WTF is this bs. it should stop the zombie. or atleast show the zombie smashing the door!! GEEZE

Dont pick it up until launch + ARMA 3 imo is better...a lot better and has a lot more play time and potential.
