Best Buy lied!!! thought I finally got an Xbox series x... yeah right!! I must of been dreaming

so I'm just going to attach the email that I just sent best buy. I'm done with this at this point think I'm cursed.... My hope has been demolished that I will ever get a Xbox series x

So i was promised an xbox series x by an online support agent. I had a few questions so I reached back out and was told to call support. I did so and that agent told me I was lied to. He told me to go back into online chat and talk to a supervisor. After talking with an agent that gave me the runaround I got transferred to another agent. With him I was able to get to a supervisor. I told the supervisor what happened and that I had chat logs and call #'s basically that I had proof and he did nothing but say sorry and send an email to this email address. i've attached the logs below except for the last one i had with a supervisor because i cannot find it or it has not been sent to me yet but i'm sure you can find it the first person i talked to on the last chat was useless i had to ask for a supervisor multiple times and she thought a rtx 3070 ti was an xbox series x.
 
Im extremely aggravated over this. i've been an xbox customer for 15 years and thought best buy was a place that i could trust but obviously that's not the case. In this case i was cheated out of an xbox series x after being promised one.

Sucks that you got mislead, but 1) you should assume that any chat support agent knows exactly nothing about anything, especially when it comes to how the website functions and 2) it's pretty universal that nothing is reserved until you have completed payment.

I mean, I can kind of see why you're frustrated, but I'm going to put a few things out there:

  • They don't care if you're an Xbox customer. Being an Xbox customer doesn't really benefit BestBuy.
  • If you couldn't pick a store, how did you think you were getting one reserved? That doesn't make any sense. Logic should have kicked in there.
  • There's very little a support agent can do for you in most circumstances. You should have just called the stores directly, or gone in.

Here's a key piece of information. It seems like he provided you with information, which you didn't understand properly, and he then carried on the conversation thinking you'd understood it correctly. Basically, if there was stock, you'd be able to pay and check out,once it's in stock, and at that time it would be reserved for you.

Right. You'd have to pay. Which you didn't do, as you couldn't, because there's no stock.

I actually wanted to say I've been a best buy customer for 15 years. The auto fill put in Xbox. Also you cannot order in the store or through the phone only online. I do get what your saying but at the same time if there was no stock in my area they could of just shipped it to the store but there was no option for that. They need to change the system they use because with it in my cart I had one when i chatted on the phone he explained that to me. that's why I said I was cheated out of an Xbox.

Just because you get it in your cart doesn't mean anything is reserved. You have to select the store and check out before that store is sold out. I had the same thing happen to me multiple times when trying to buy a PS5 from Best Buy. You weren't fast enough checking out so you didn't get your system. The chat support rep seems to have made a promise he couldn't keep, and having worked this kind of tech support before, when someone asks for a supervisor we'd just transfer him to the guy at the next desk over and he'd pretend to be someone in a position of authority. But he can't do shit.

 

It's frustrating as hell trying to buy these consoles. I lost so many PS5 in my shopping cart at Walmart too before finally checking out quickly enough. You have to race through checkout when you have a system in your shopping cart, especially at Best Buy where you have to also take the extra step of choosing the store for pickup. Nothing is ever reserved until you complete checkout.

 

Best advice I can give is have all your CC and shipping info already on file with the store you try to buy from, make sure you have your CVV on your credit card memorized so you can enter it quickly, hope these fucks don't send 2-factor authentication codes because you haven't ordered from them in a while (this happened to me one time trying to buy a PS5 through Best Buy, and they kept sending me bad 2-factor codes), and just blitz through checkout as fast as you can. And be prepared to lose the system in the shopping cart many many times. Probably took me 10-15 times between Walmart and Best Buy before I finally successfully completed checkout after getting a PS5 in my cart and it was infuriating each of those 9-14 times I lost it after getting it in my shopping cart.

 

If you don't mind spending to get an extra controller, a game or two, a GamePass or XBox Live subscription (I forget which), and a Gamestop giftcard you might consider the Gamestop bundles too. Not sure exactly about Series X but I have seen their PS5 bundles stay in stock for 15-30 minutes after being offered for sale.
