how to remove music from a mp4 video

Hi everyone!

So I have a problem that the city has been tearing up the street in front of my house for the last 2 years, with another 2 years to go. This, along with my air conditioner means that I have to crank up the volume when I'm watching a movie. However, the bleeping music will suddenly blow out my speakers and my ear drums!

What I would like to do is remove the music completely from the movie. I can remove the music with  Audacity, but I can't find a way to play the extracted audio on VLC as a second audio feed, so it seems that I need to remove the music and reinsert the left over audio.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to go about this?

Thanks!

Are you playing the movie from a computer or from something else?
