XB360 Controller Driver for Windows 8.1?

then maybe your controller is broken, I have a couple Microsoft ones, some light up LED one, and some cheap POS one from gamestop they all work fine on windows 7, 8, and 8.1.  Just plug in and it works.

Im pretty the Xbox Controller for PC is NOT plug and play. You should be able to install the Windows 7 drivers on Windows 8 though...Ive done it with some other programs that were not supposed to work in Win8 but did...

And my Xbox controller for PC has ALWAYS needed drivers installed. It is wired...and I use Win7.

Of course they need drivers, but should automatically install them the first time you plug it in, at least on win 7 it does that.

 

I thought all wired controllers work on PC, the wireless ones with a charge cable will not, they just send power.

Windows 8 RT and Pro have drivers already installed for the Xbox Controller so yes, it IS plug and play. If you have issues it may be your controller itself. Or you could try installing windows 7 drivers over the windows 8 ones (although they should be the same).

 

On my surface pro i have windows 8.1 and my controller was plug and play.

I have windows 8.1 and I've always just plugged my xbox 360 controller in and it recognizes it just fine.

i have a wired controller that came with my first xbox360 when the console came out and all i have ever had to do is simply plug in the controller. If it is not recognized automatically, you might have a bad controller.

XBox 360 controller drivers are included in Windows Vista and up.

You must use the provided disk for XP or if you got the wireless and want the added program which informs you about the battery life.
