TV to bookshelf speakers

I have 2 bookshelf speakers (from an old hifi system) that I wish to connect to my TV, ideally running as left and right channel. The speakers have serial RCA connections and the tv in question has optical output. My question is what do I need to make them work together, and which of that item do you recommend (price range is up to £120) (and I am based in the UK)

Thanks in advance

you need a stereo receiver with optical in.
or a small amp with optical in

the out can be anything. like if wire outs you cut one end of the rca cable to expose the wires.

IF you cant find one with optical...any stereo receiver or amp but youll need an optical to rca adapter like this to go from tv to amp or receiver

Thank you, out of interest the speakers that I have are "monitor audio studio 5", would you recommend using them or getting a sound bar and subwoofer instead?

I don't think that they are powered they only have 2 left and 2 right RCA as inputs, no where for external power to plug into.

ah ok
a decent sound bar will cost you a lot more then 120. there is cheap ones but again they are cheap. youll get better sound from those monitors with a cheap receiver or amp

(edit) i went on amazon uk...holy shit you guys have crap for selection
of the possibles in your price area

Thank you for the recommendations I found that I can get some corporate discounts /cash back from some retailers that sell sound bars would I still be better off with the amp if I were to spend up to 200

IF you can find one. (those speakers will sound better) but like i said selection in u.k is horrible. i seen a couple others but they were like 500+

if you can actually go in and hear how the sound bar sounds at the retailers, that would be ideal. then you can decide that way
