4 GB 1050 Ti or 3GB GTX 1060?

That's what I found, but I wasn't sure if the missing GB of ram would be hugely impactful

Nah - just switch to it and try it, as you should before you decide to keep it and rid of the other.

A 1060 is almost twice as fast, that should be a no brainer.

 

yes you'll "lose" 1GB, but you'll overall get much higher fps and higher settings too.  The thing is a lot of memory doesnt help when the gpu cant drive it...

You might be limited in texture quality you can run, but at resolutions these cards are good for (1080p) it wouldnt be a big difference.

A lot of games use more than 3GB but they might adapt to 3GB alright. You could always lower textures or resolution.

I know I played Farcry 5 with 2GB and it was ok other than having to restart the game every 5 hours to clear the vram unless I wanted to deal with 20 fps drop. Basically the game wasn't doing a perfect job of getting rid of less used memory from new encounters.

 

It was totally playable, no weird bugs with textures failing to load and no significant lag or stutter.

 

In the long enough term you're better off with the 4GB but if you upgrade in the next 6 years, take the 1060.
