Most popular e-sport game.

Harshil

The most popular esport would most likely be lol or dota.

The most influential would be Brood War or Quake. (Going to give the edge to brood war).

Popularity doesn't always mean the best.

We can also look at it with the lens of what would become a future (Olympic) sport. Games like fighters and Starcraft would be more likely to be a actual sport due to the 1v1 nature and the combined mental and physical (APM) aspects. Although CS:GO Dota and Leauge can be considered candidates, the nature of 1v1 with lots of mental aspects is more likely to be accepted.

It is like chess combined with shooting or archery.

Holy balls CS:GO went from least popular to 2nd most popular in the time since I last was at this forum. Popularity has gone up by a lot since the last few majors.

Where's DOTA 2?

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Where's DOTA 2?

You mean Dota 2 being the most popular in this list? Well as a Dota and a CS fan, I have to say most people in the forums prefer LoL over Dota. Riot won't let Dota 2 overtake them so easily.

Statistically, LoL is the most popular with users, but DotA has a more consistent and active fan base. Last time I checked  :)

The only game I ever played that could be played competitively is call of duty.

It's not even that good of a shooter....

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Street Fighter > Smash Bros. Opinions, but, even still, none of the fighters are listed. They only have probably the longest standing tournament (Evolution)

My vote would go to Starcraft 2, followed by Dota 2 then League of Legends

It's a popularity poll, not implying one game is better than other or one game has better e-sports than other.

It's mostly because Starcraft haws been here for ages, also Dota. But LoL itself is really famous too.

Reason for the " I'm Sorry" it was during the great peasant period in my life. Thankfully i was able to befriend the Jarl of my town and he promoted me to pcmasterrace.

I actually apologize. I misread your original post as "The only game that should ever be played" xD

This is awkward...

Street Fighter is the classic by which all fighting games are measured against, but the way Melee works is just beautiful. It allows for both aggressive and defensive playstyles, incorporates directional influence, near limitless movement options, creative self-directed combos, all within a sandbox environment that rewards skillful play. SF is great, but Melee is the king, IMO.

BTW, The Big House 4 is this weekend, and will be livestreamed on VGBootCamp and some other twitch channels as well, I believe. It's going to be the 4th largest Smash tournament of all time (behind Apex 2014 and Evo 2013 & 2014) -- you should really check it out. :)
