Only 1mm headroom with ordered cooler

Apolonn
Go to solution Solved by Hairless Monkey Boy,

CoolerMaster is well aware that many coolers are 165mm tall. They specifically chose 166mm as the max clearance to include 165mm tall coolers.

Hi, I recently purchased a brand new Noctua NH-D15 for my Ryzen 7 3700x to lower it´s temps (duh). The thing is my case is a CoolerMaster masterbox mb311l, which according to CM website has a 166mm hight clearance for the CPU cooler, while the NH-D15 is 165mm tall. Will it fit? I know you might think that it should but it would be such a tight fit that i don´t know if my panel with close. Thank you

If it's within spec it should fit.

it will be fine. Most are actually a mm or 2 short on there listed compatibility so since you're 1mm under the listed, you should be more than fine.

The CPU cooler clearance can vary

I've had a cooler scrape on the plexi glass even though it's 2mm away on paper

Cooler master casing too iirc, and a hyper 212 which is also CM

I'm not too sure if that's because AMD sockets are slightly taller than Intel sockets(?)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

my cooler has the same "1mm" clearance.

Its really a bit more though , maybe 2mm, it should be fine.

Heatsink is actually 160mm. The outer fan is where it goes over to 165mm. So if you have issues, you can run it without the second fan, or move that fan to other side.
