Unable to find M.2 drive. Did I buy something uncompatible?

Hello,

 

I have a WD Blue 1TB SN550 NVMe SSD.  When I pop it into my motherboard (TUF B365M-PLUS GAMING (WIFI)) I am unable to detect it.

Here are some things I've tried:

1. Tried both m.2 slots

2. changed the "M.2_1 Configuration" bios setting to enable and auto

Does it show up in the BIOS?

AKA Is it missing from the BIOS, or just from some other program like Windows Install Media

Both of your M.2 slots will support that NVME drive.

 

Does the drive show up in the BIOS?

If yes, does it show up in Windows in the Device Manager?

If yes, have you initialized and formatted the drive with the Disk Management Utility?

It is not showing up in the bios. Could I have installed it incorrectly? Does it matter that I already have an SSD that runs my OS and is my main storage right now?

Nope, existing SSD doesn't matter.

Either your SSD is dead or you're installing it wrong.

Okay, could be a dead SSD then. I will try to get it RMA'd. Thanks for helping me out.

How did you install your M.2 drive? Did you install it standoff, then drive, then screw (assuming standoffs aren't already on the board)? From what I've seen, it's surprisingly common for people to bend the drive down, then install the standoff and screw on top of it.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

I followed an LTT video and I did standoff - drive - screw

Then yeah, I'd try sending it in for an RMA at that point, unless someone else has any other suggestions.
