we need more context, a single cpu alone wont be able to do anything much

what's the rest of the PC like? what are you expecting to do on the PC?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'm just playing normal games, using it for work, etc. Nothing too high end. Also my graphics card will mostl likely be a rtx 3060 ti, and I was wondering how it'll do with that gpu. Also since the GPU shortage, I may be using a 1070 for now, and was wondering how it'd do with that. Thanks!

Value wise the 10700K is actually a compelling purchase right now, you do get enough for any gaming and general pc usage you could want for a relatively good price. That said so should the i5 10600K... my i7 8700 system which is basically the same CPU horsepower does well on this sort of thing and wouldn't hold back a 3060 Ti

It's a really weird role reversal from 2017-2018.

Intel is now positioned in the value-oritented segment, where you are getting more less powerful cores for the same or less money with slightly worse performance.

To me the standouts are the 10600k and 10850k. They are priced very competitively vs the 5600x and 5800x, giving you 95% of the performance for most users for less money.
