System: Ryzen 5 2600, 16gb 3000mhz RAM, GTX 1050 Ti

Does b550 really give any gain in performance for this rig?

No, there would be no gain for going B550.

The advantage of B550 over B450 - generally - is PCIe 4.0 vs. PCIe 3.0. But neither your CPU nor your graphics card are PCIe 4.0, so there would be no advantage to B550.

Plus - and this is probably the most important part - B550 does not work with your CPU. B550 only works with Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 CPU's.

What @miniboissaid.

PCIe 4.0 doesn't even give much of a benefit with current levels of technology. Most GPUs can't even fully use the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0. Even an RTX 3080/3090 is only about 3% slower on gen 3 compared to gen 4.

With PCIe storage, the price of most gen 4 drives just makes it kind of pointless unless you want the best of the best. You could basically have double the storage getting a gen 3 drive over a gen 4 drive for the same price, with no noticeable difference in performance for most people.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

Higher ram speeds, better power phases, USB 3.2 Gen 2, and a better NiC come to mind.

Higher ram speeds

I am doing 3466Mhz on my medium end B450 board...

Also the memory controller on the CPU plays a big role in it (that's what limits me from going 3600MHz).

Think about it,X470 and B450 are the only boards that support all consumer desktop Ryzen processors.
