Basically inside the case the power supply was creating some sort of short, so I got it out like in the picture and everything works perfectly now. I just kept the tower to switch it on (power sw, reset sw, etc still connected from Mobo to case).

But is this dangerous? I sort of prefer it like this, to see the computer working before my eyes is a nice thing I think.

Not at all, but be careful of the mother board. You don't want anything metallic connecting mobo traces and shorting the board.

Ps. You might want to take the power and reset switches out of the case and check for an intrusion detection switch.

No, but you should really investigate why it was shorting before.

Completely agreed. I suspect OP forgot standoffs.

Had a case years ago, that would not work.

Take everything out, on bench worked.

In case no.

Actually put a canvas in case, between motherboard and case still did not work.
Back to bench fine.  Used same PSU same wiring for buttons.
Even removed all and just shorted pin to start.
Another case all same parts, fine.

Boss did not believe me, he had same results.

Put back in new case, took old one out and used for target practice.
Was old heavy steel case.

what do you mean by short?

if so something is most likely to be burned, or some safety function/jumper forcing shutdown

Shorts don't always cause components to burn up

And jumpers aren't the only possible "shorts" on a mobo
