Electronic Toothbrush Recommendation

paulyron

I used an old oral b electric toothbrush for many years and it stopped working few months ago.  As in stop charging.  Back then electric toothbrushes were expensive, like a hundred dollars or so and now when i check amazon, im shocked at how low the prices are and the great reviews of these.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a specific electric toothbrush that i can buy off amazon?  Shocked at how low these prices are.

You get what you pay for.
I have an Oral B Black 7000. They have different brush settings, which is a nice touch, rather than just on or off. Love it.

I just use the standard Oral-B Vitality rechargeable one. You can get them for around $20-30 or so.

Its inexpensive, the replacement heads are cheap, and there are third party options. And it works really well.

So I found out apparently we have one of these in the closet that has been there for years that are still new and unopened

Would you say use this for now and see how it is?  I mean an electric toothbrush is still an electric toothbrush right?

My advice is to take it apart and repair whatever broke. Or at least try to. Electric toothbrushes are dead simple. A battery (usually non-lithium ion), a copper coil to move the magnet at the end of the head, and a controller board to chop the battery power into pulses / charge the battery. that's it. Dead simple. If the case doesn't have screws, find someone who can 3D print you a new one with screw holes? "It's a lot of work!" it is, but these companies literally build this shit to be e-waste, and I'm a little tired of being told that I'm the problem when companies go out of their way to make this shit garbage the second it breaks.

Might as well give it a try first before spending money on a new one.

a lot of electric toothbrushes are sealed and not technically user repairable.

He probably could take it apart and maybe even  fix it. But good luck putting it back together and ensuring it’s water tight (so there’s no risk of electrocution or killing the electronics).

Pro tip: Ebay is the best place to buy electronic toothbrushes at a good price.

I got an Oral-B  6000 for $70 brand new not long ago.  It retails for much more than that, and it works great.  Much better than the Philips Sonicare I had before.  Love it.

besides that they aren't meant to be opened (if you do so, you might destroy it)

they aren't worth to be repaired, to fabricate those things is cheap

better getting a random unbranded one, it's cheaper and timesaver
