Aftermarket Cooler Clearances

Go to solution Solved by Bombastinator,

There are standards of measurement for that stuff you may be ignoring.  The teaseract is an older case.  It’s pretty wide though. I would personally go with the manufacturer’s measurement before yours.  They had to build an assembly line based on those numbers.  The 6600k though is 4/8. Be sure you’re not just throwing good money after bad.  My personal move would be to get a big cheap used cooler that fits and clock to that level.  Not sure how much longer a 4/8 chip of any stripe will game.

Case : Deepcool Tesseract SW

Coolers  Phanteks PH-TC12DX , Scythe Fuma 2, be quiet! Pure Rock 2, be quiet! Shadow Rock 3

I have a I5-6600k cooled with an Intel Stock Cooler and i want to get an aftermarket cooler so i can begin overclocking. I'm looking at the above coolers however i can't determine which of these will fit in the case.

To the best of my understanding the Shadow Rock 3 and the Phanteks are some of the better performers however I have conflicting information as to if they will fit in the case.

The Deepcool Website and Noctua Websites both list the case as being able to accept a cooler of 165 mm in height but the laser measuring tape i used gives me 160.1 mm when I checked my IRL case. Is this difference accounted for by the motherboard and do the Deepcool and Noctua recommendations account for a motherboard ?

Also if i change motherboards will that affect my cooler's ability to fit

Also my current motherboard is an MSI B250M-Pro-VD(Which isn't overclocking capable but I am replacing it soon with either a  z170/ z20 ROG board or a z270 Asus TUF board )?

Also the NH-D15 along with AIO coolers are out of budget. I'm looking at a max of 60 USD.

Also silence isn't that important, My preferences are good cooling for an OC, cost and color.

Also am i overthinking this and should i just take a mallet  to the case side panel ?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

What is the rated accuracy of the laser tape? Dooes it have a minimum measure distance?

The case has a window bump out, did you take that into account?

I believe cooler clearances and heights are measured from the top of the motherboard.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Excellent question

the laser tape has an accuracy of 1.6 mm
but is only certified for distances larger than 10 cm
.So its probably inaccurate.

No i didn't account for the punch out
So yea it will probably fit

Thanks
