Just need quick help

I'm extending off a 5/6 AMP socket. My setup has:

450W PSU

15W Screen

20W Boombox (Speakers)

Thinking of adding an old 2000W Sub..

How do I calculate the amps my setup might be pulling? Is it just dividing power by voltage or am I stupid?

Amps = Watts / Circuit voltage

 

450W/120V = 3.75A (maximum)

2000W/120V = 16.6A (lolwut? this is more than most household circuits...)

 

(inb4 some person tells me I forgot reactive power; I don't care and it really doesn't matter for household equipment)

@AbydosOne Now I don't know if it operates at 2000W for sure (Its written on the front tho) and I've been using it since 15 years sometimes along with a TV or very old desktop without any issues... Since my new desktop pulls quite more juice than older one, I was wondering if the combination would still be okay from that single 6 AMP socket

Its name is: Intex IT 2000W 2.1 (Not the SB version)

Its very old with only AUX input but the bass is still very hard :V

Probably closer to 32W based on the specs, which is basically nothing. As long as you're not running everything wide-open at once, you should be fine on 5-6A.

Watts are watts, as far as I know. You can't create more power without it coming from somewhere.

To be fair, when actually turned the bass knob to max, the vibrations were felt on the bed (Sub on the computer table) xD

Thats the problem! This speaker is not what you see on Amazon. It was bought 15 years ago, and the version on amazon is the revised one with USB, Bluetooth and whatnot. This has a single AUX in

Well I opened it to repair and saw the speaker.. was about the size that would fit in a 18yr olds palm... If thats helpful :V

My question is why do you only have a 6 amp outlet? Household outlets are wired up to a minimum of a 15 amp breaker meaning you can pull up to 12 amps constant off it.

but don't look at your speaker when you want to know how much power it has look at the amp its hooked up to. And based on the size you describe it prob only has like a 50 watt amp. On the back of the thing it should have all the pertinent info like max power draw. unless it has a wall wort or power brick then look on there. but for something with a 6 inch'ish speaker it wont draw much juice.

@AbydosOne Bruh just searched through 2000W and I dont think mine is 2000W at all.. Probably the acoustics or what ever you said..

If this Monstrosity is 1800W, how is mine 2000W at half the size xD

Its written AC input: 220V- 240V 50Hz

Its a IT2000SB... So probably the listing of 20W is right..

So 20W sub is this loud O_O

it should say right next to the voltage amps draw. like the powerbrick for my laptop says "input 100-240V ~ 1.5A 50-60Hz"

Audio Watts have NOTHING to do with electricity.

Indonesia runs it power at 230Volts so at 5 Amps you have about 1150 Watts to play with.

The computer power supply will be 450W@230/240Volts so that legit is taking 450 Watts at full whack.
15Watt screen pretty small

Leaves you with 500 or so Watts for speaker stuff.


BTW that sub you linked doesnt have a amplifier so you will need one to power it.

The power that audio equipment draws under use is often uncorrelated to what is stuck on the back of the box. As an example, my MC2 MC650 is rated to draw "18 A max" for the 120 V version (9 A for the 240 V version). I've monitored the input power on these amps when biasing them, and their nominal input current with an average load at reasonable volumes is about 2A. The reason it's rated at 18 A is that it can draw that much at high power levels. I can easily make it draw 18A by bridging it into a 4-ohm dummy load and driving it with a sine wave. In a home environment, it will never see that kind of power draw.

 

A 2 kW subwoofer won't draw anything close to that on a continuous basis in a home environment.
