Dell prebuilt worth it?

10400F

8gb ddr4

1tb platter

500 watt psu

case

5700XT

$999

I figure a good msrp of the 5700XT is $400.  I know the rest of the other equipment is probably only worth $400 - $500.  Is $100 markup for everything worth it?

It'll replace a 9100F & 1070FE

Will I notice a big difference?

Don't bother.

Why:

1. No SSD
2. Unknown motherboard

3. Unknown PSU

4. Most likely proprietary case, motherboard, and PSU

5. 8GB of RAM - most likely single channel

What are the full specs of your current system?

9100F

Some $70 Gigabyte board

16gb ddr4

240gb ssd

2x2tb platters

1070FE

evga 750watt bronze

5700XT a sizeable jump from 1070?  I have a gsync monitor but I know it's not the end of the world and I'll still be able to take advantage of its 180hz panel.

I just want a sizeable upgrade without paying the RTX 3000 screwing.

Also also. They have pretty darn poor airflow in most of their cases.

That and this isn't really that much of an upgrade either. A 9900k can go as low as 250 which is a better cpu and then later when prices normalize a 3060ti class gpu or better can be gotten.

Kind of a sideways move upgrade wise, not sure if I'd really bother tbh.

SSDs are easy to add, and with the current part supply issues prebuilts make a lot of sense.

You can select single or dual channel RAM when you spec out the system.

I figure I can swap the ram and put the ssd from my current system into the Dell.  I'm not sure if my evga psu will fit in a Dell case.  Likely not since Dell likes to use those PSU that looks like a stick of butter.  But if it'll mount my evga then great.

The thing is, with the current shortage, I can probably sell my 1070 for at least $400 - $500 which will pay for 1/2 of the Dell I'm looking at.

I just don't think ray tracing is worth all this trouble.

I really wouldn't count on the PSU fitting, and honestly wouldn't bother trying.

Same with the RAM.

I don't really see the point in upgrading right now, though I suppose if it's essentially "free", you might as well.

Doug, in general, Dell have a pretty terrible reputation among pc "enthusiasts".

Can you not source something similar from another company?
