Ideally you'd do something like:

UPS and battery backups at the very bottom

Servers wherever and switch near wherever most of the gear is.

Patch panel above/below the switch(es)

@Lurick I saw your network diagram in your signature, do you have a post detailing what services you are running and what you are using your RPis for? Another question if you don’t mind, why did you go with Cisco gear, was it value, what you are more experienced with, or something else?

I've got some other servers up top I don't have pictured for backup only so they are off most of the time (and the QNAP is my main storage box) but most of what I use the RPis for is development, messing around, and I have one running as a local NTP server for fun. I've got a couple DNS servers on my Intel NUC running ESXi as well where I host most of my VMs (Plex and whatnot). As for the gear itself I got it for testing and validation for work purposes for the most part and what better way than real world traffic loads, lol.

My little 6U rack.
As you can see, I need more space and I need to update the labels on my patchpanel. Documentation is key!

  • power bar
  • router + rack mount kit
  • UnRaid Server
  • Synology NAS
  • 24-port switch
  • 24-port patchpanel

I edited the post and replaced the pics with uploads from imgur. Should be showing now!

Idk why they weren't showing before. I uploaded them to the forum. 😐
