Basher2112
Go to solution Solved by Basher2112,
  • Asus Crosshair viii wifi
  • bios 3204
  • windows 10pro
  • adata gen 3 ssd m.2 (boot drive)
  • Seagate firecuda gen4 m.2 (clone drive)
  • Trident z32gb 3600mhz
  • Evga 850 G3
  • water cooled

I have tried to clone the gen 4  ssd from the gen 3 ssd several times now . tried to install it in second ssd slot on mb but windows wouldn't recognize it. have tried command prompt to clean ssd, reformatted drive. two different kinds of clone software, to no avail. bios will only recognize new ssd on first boot attempt it's gone and no longer an option after that.

What motherboard? Try updating the bios. And do a bios reset after that.

After cloning try to plug only the ssd, with all other drive disconnected.

I have tried it, no luck  . I have also tried, and had one successful boot with gen three in usb enclosure. after about 30 seconds windows took over and  rebooted. it did at least reconize gen 4 drive. In the enclosure gen 4 checks out as working properly, so I know both drives are fine.

I don't have a second desktop capable of running gen 4 ssd, or I would have tried a different computer.

I know I'm missing something, just not sure what. Thanks for trying though.

Well, i guess your drive maybe not supported at the moment, i'm not sure. Bios update usually fixes these types of problems.

You can wait for the motherboard to update it or you return the firecuda and change it to something more common like a 970 evo.

Did you use diskpart to clean the drive and reformat it?

How does the drive show up on diskpart? Get to a dos prompt and run diskpart. Once in, type list disk. Do both drives show? If so, type select (drive number), then type detail disk.
